I don't really think there's a significant difference in your character development from studying STEM vs studying humanities. Maybe there's a difference between if you just talk about theory versus talking to people or doing hands on work and also if it makes a lot of money versus leaving you broke

I know this was a problem before but I wonder if social media makes it worse especially if you are on all the time because everything you do on social media is a public act and the only result of anything you do is people clicking if you did a good job, even most replies boil down to "good/bad job"

Me: If I was rich I wouldn’t go insane. I might buy a few small luxuries, but I’d stay a normal person *someone hands me $50 billion* Me: I will build an underground city. It shall be an Ark for 10,000 humans to survive the coming Conflagration

Ok so is this guy's deal that he just make posts where he says "BREAKING: Claude has a feature called [Thing] Mode. You activate it by using this prompt I give you where you say 'claude make [thing]'" and he just inserts a new thing every day

When people talk about how the most anodyne, no-personality agents are like a "partner" or "collaborator" to bounce ideas off of, or say that this one is a little "saucy" I feel like this has to be a case of never having used your imagination before and kind of overdosing the first time you try it

Spent a little for a membership at a local science museum and was kind of annoyed that they used some of that money on AI exhibits where you ask AI animal characters questions about their species and they ignore you or say hello repeatedly. Shouldn't they be buying a replacement albino alligator

A lot of times there isn't anything to be gleaned but also you could have an article that is like "Exclusive details about life inside the Borg Cube, including their one weakness" and people will go "NOT READING A FLUFF PIECE ABOUT THEIR CUTE LITTLE OVERRIDE SYSTEMS, I ALREADY KNOW THE BORG ARE BAD"

People do this with machines and electronic devices all the time, it's not working so they flip a switch and then it's still not working and you're like "wait, maybe it needs some time to reboo-" and then they flip it again, and again

Exactly like the story challenge isn't to try to find an alternative to the power of friendship it's to create a group of friends that are so interesting and feel so real that you want them to use the power of friendship

Every time people want to explain traditional guy hobbies to women they always use analogies like food or pop music or reality tv when this is the correct metaphor the girls crave. I have no idea what you're getting at with that fashion example, which one of these fellas is Yamamoto

I think Kashi the cereal company should sue Kalshi the gambling company for trademark infringement due to consumer confusion, take it for everything it's got, and use the proceeds to advance cereal innovation a century ahead

Ok so everyone talks about third places (not home or work) and I was going to joke about fourth places and I guess someone already came up with it as a serious term but only as a combination of 2 of the first 3, which is weak and doesn't count imo, it should be like a pocket dimension or purgatory

Yeah if you can't (won't) fix things but you want people to keep supporting you then you're going to have to keep inventing a big powerful villain that is stopping you from fixing things

Occasionally I see someone post some LLM output with comments like "the models figured out how to be funny, it's all over now" and then you read it and, well it's usually posted by a computer person and, well, what's the best way to put it, they're working with a different bar

Sauron didn't really become cool and scary until he died and I think that's a message we should get out to more evil people that like to pattern themselves after Tolkien's fiction

It seems like the AI jobs catastrophe everyone imagines is that every worker is replaced by AI, then everyone has no job and starves, disaster ensues, but it feels more like it would be, every company replaces workers with AI, turns out they had some load bearing duties AI can't do, disaster ensues

I don't think it would be 1000x worse if it was a woman but although I'm sure he means if a woman got her address sent out to strangers, I also am imagining a guy who is paralyzed with fear at the idea that a strange woman could have showed up at his door

I think the majority of high profile political debate now is just each side immediately falling down and flopping around theatrically like a magikarp complaining about how hard the other side just hit them

Ok so I really like the Victoria's Secret and Pink clothing lines (the non lingerie outer clothes) for the cut and fit but as a 50 year old woman it's very limited which ones I could actually get and wear to work or even outside the house, not because they're revealing but like
Flare leggings that say "you wish you were here" on the butt

If I'm being really honest I do actually go out of my way to avoid things if everyone is gushing about how popular and interesting it is. If people gush about it being good, I'm interested, but if they focus on how popular it is ("everybody's obsessed") I'm out. Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, etc

I'm not even joking when I say that like, all the lofty talk about the meaning of art aside, don't you think there's more to be gained from interacting with a human drawing what they think you would look like as a wasp versus just using an AI face filter to see what you would look like as a wasp

85% replies riffing on the obvious joke 10% explaining smugly to the OP that he has watched gay porn 5% genuinely upset at this obviously real porn that was against hiring women, usually connecting it to some kind of anti Trump cliche

This is the exception that proves the rule but there are trees on top of Google buildings and a lot of trees on top of Meta headquarters. In planters of course, and placed at great expense

I think "never heard of him/her/that" is frequently used as a sick burn and also frequently is just true, and the only way to tell is case by case, based on each speaker's deal, and blanket declaring it's all one or the other without considering each speaker individually is just bad social skills

Haha, I accidentally configured FaceID with a huge smile recently (because I was in a hurry). Now, I can only unlock my device if I smile. Strangely, this has helped me feel better about my 2026 malaise.

Me: Haha I hope you don't mind I showed up to this interview with an iced coffee. Line was a little longer than I thought. Hope you didn't have to wait too long! Isaac Chotiner: How many hours late would you say constitutes waiting too long?

I do these little sketches for our team sprints at work, the current sprint name theme is pairs so we've done Rick and Morty, Batman and Robin, and Lucia and Jason. I think I got a little overambitious on the last one, it's a bit beyond my skill level. I didn't even have a gag for it

Ok so I assumed this was played by the prosecution and after reading the story I confirmed that, but for a moment I thought wait what if this was played by the defense. The guy and his lawyer just going I think this is going to work. I think people are going to be moved by this

Apparently they didn't just put her in an ad that they showed her friend. They put her in an ad laughing in bed with a strange man, and showed it to her friend? This seems like a recipe for absolute chaos

Honestly I think when most people say they mentioned an old thing from their childhood and were MORTIFIED when younger people responded "what's that," they weren't surprised, they did it on purpose to OG one-up the kids. But I really did tell a Kmart story once and get thrown when I had to explain

I have actually thought a lot about how job interview etiquette is a lot like rules about interacting with the fae, especially as a job seeker where you are paranoid about if everything could be a test like is it a plus or minus if I say yes when they offer a drink? Does it matter which soda I pick?

I like how I go to my timeline and everybody is like "the iced coffee interview thing is so stupid I won't link to or screenshot it or explain what it was because it doesn't deserve any more reach" and this made me of course spend more time than usual searching for it and looking at it

Not even joking I think this would make a decent impact in getting regular people interested, especially if you were like "disagree? we want to hear YOUR rankings" and there was a little web page to rank the list yourself and share it with your friends

When people say they hate all these things about a Republican candidate but are going to vote for him anyway because a Democrat is unthinkable, that's the power of fear. Not like a sympathetic fear, but they really believe liberals are going to force everyone to be gay or Muslim or whatever

I'm sorry I realize this is not important at all compared to the main thing but I've been stuck trying to figure out why yogurt on pants looking like cum would mean you need to get someone's number. I understand he's just a creep fumbling for a line but like what's even the segue between those
