I am in Cap Haitien interviewing people deported from the United States. I have been doing this kind of work for almost a decade and it literally does not get more dire than this. People have lost everything they built in the U.S. and are terrified and have no place to go or way to live.

It's not a cartoony style thing either. Gustave Dore goes CRAZY. A lot of classical art in general. People like Sparth, Thomas Blackshear II. Wonder if it has something to do with the way different artists play with light and shadow. This isn't critique. There's no good/bad. Just like/don't like.

Compared to say, Yoh Yoshinari, or Naoki Ikushima (Final Fantasy Tactics/Octopath Traveler) who I actually prefer over Nomura, because Nomura falls in that "not as animated" camp for me. Kazuma Kaneko is real good too. The painting doesn't take away from the "animated" feel. It reinforces it.

So something like NIKKE with how heavily rendered it is takes away from that "animated" feel. That's not a style that would feasibly be animated, and they get around that with Live2D-esque rigging. But I also hate rigging, that reinforces how unanimated it is.

It's a big reason why I don't like the artstyles of NIKKE, or many Hoyo games, League of Legends, etc. I don't care to animate beyond "it'll help me with illustrations," but I still want a style that feels like it can be animated.

It's hard to explain cause these are such nebulous terms, but it's very important for me that an art piece feels "animated" particularly the figures, and everything reinforcing that. To the point that even if the lineart fulfills that, the painting could take away from it.

Biggest issue with a lot of Big Tiddy Art, is that the boobs look too firm. It takes away from the gesture of the figure, imo. Sure, it can still "jiggle" but the jiggle feels out of sync, life of it's own. Looser, floppier boobies are where it's at.
