A fellow educator witnessed a colleague stop a child from stimming—basic hand stimming. They held the child’s hands still to do this! The stimming was completely safe. No reason for alarm, no reason to stop them except the adult’s need to exert compliance to neuronormativity. This needs to STOP!

Alt text should be as long as it needs to be in order to effectively describe the content. In some cases, this will be a few phrases. In other cases, it will take a few more sentences. Aim to be as efficient as possible without leaving out key details.

This is so true for Autistic/ADHD lives. Want help? First you have to do the thing you can't do, and then we'll give you help..perhaps.... @diversitydoodles.bsky.social
A line drawing illustration by Diversity Doodles. The picture shows an adult and a child and a huge line of hoops, with a sign in the distance saying "help with hoops this way" at the end of the line of hoops that have to be jumped through. The adult says to a child, "I see your diagnosis states you have difficulty jumping through hoops? If you could just jump through these to get over there, we MIGHT be able to give you some help".

Autistic life is getting called robotic for not fake-laughing at jokes that you simply don't find funny. If I find the joke funny I will laugh. The expectation of fake laughter at jokes that aren't funny just to be perceived a certain way is just one of many reasons that socialising is tiring.

#INSAR2025 researchers, if you actually talk to autistic people of all ages, disability profiles, and communication profiles, you'll find that a non-innate commonality is … trauma. And as this is avoidable, this is one of the root areas from which all autism research should proceed. #neurodiversity
