📝 Excited to share an accepted first-authored paper at Clinical Psych Science! Why are so many mental disorders treated as unidimensional? We show support for 1-factor models is often just an artifact of conventional psychometric methods -- which weren't designed with psychopathology in mind.

Excited to share a paper recently accepted at Nature Mental Health! 😄 For decades, we've assumed that covariance among psychopathology informs comorbidity. What if we’ve been wrong?

This y'all luminary in the clinical psych field? Possibly one of, if not the, worst papers I have ever read with extreme purposeful misrepresentation of so many constructs. But if I say this is racist would I be doing too much? I appreciate the last case example is named "Craig" though. Cute.

In our rejoinder, we argue 1) Dark terminology isn't used responsibly as BL et al. claim, 2) the term can be replaced with a more sensible and scientific one, 3) data support our position (Stanton et al., 2025), and 4) popularity ≠ importance. @davidchester.bsky.social @drlynam.bsky.social
