It’s a pretty ancient belief. We don’t know the names of a lot of enemies of ancient Egypt because the ancient Egyptians did this stuff. (They also believed that the survival of the name was important to survival in the afterlife, which probably played a part.)

I think I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream also works, Ellison gives Ted a lovely performance that honestly adds to the work. (It’s possible to believe Ted is right about having not been modified by AM when you read the story, but the narration makes it clear AM made him paranoid.)
