Wild take. Yes, getting a computer to do a bunch of the work does make it easier to do that work. Yes, the art is bad, in that case. No one is stopping you doing your own bad art, but have the decency to actually do it, like the rest of us out here *actually creating stuff*.

Just a reminder that people don’t always realize they were raped in the immediate aftermath. It can take hours, days, months, and even years to realize you were raped, and it doesn’t make it any less true. There are many kinds of responses, including fawning and trying to appease your rapist

People aren’t faking their disabilities, they’re faking being well. We know society hates us. We know we will be judged for using assistive devices. Many of us take years to get the courage to lean in to accommodations. Stop judging. Help us build a more inclusive world.

We exist under tyrannical, undemocratic conditions and are acutely aware how impossible it is to hold anyone in power accountable. But we don't really acknowledge how this awareness chafes at us, moves us to despair and grief and rage that sublimates into viciousness and ire at those we can reach.

i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

This is one of the things I try to emphasize in US history over and over. Slavery was a choice. Compromising with the South over and over as they whined and complained was a choice. Allowing Jim Crow was a choice. There were always alternatives, it didn't need "modern" views, they were always there.

You will be shocked, shocked to hear that "The Theory That Men Evolved to Hunt and Women Evolved to Gather Is Wrong"! 🙄 Duh! OF COURSE IT'S WRONG. But now there's a cool article listing the biological and evidentiary reasons, along with nifty diagrams. www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-...
Beginning of article from Scientific American sowing a lovely orange-toned painting of a naked woman running with a spearBeginning of an article reading "Even if you're not an anthropologist, you've probably encountered one of this
field's most influential notions, known as Man the Hunter. The theory
proposes that hunting was a major driver of human evolution and that men
carried this activity out to the exclusion of women. It holds that human ancestors had a
division of labor, rooted in biological differences between males and females, in which
males evolved to hunt and provide, and females tended to children and domestic
duties. It assumes that males are physically superior to females and that pregnancy
and child-rearing reduce or eliminate a female's ability to hunt.
Man the Hunter has dominated the study of human evolution for nearly half a century
and pervaded popular culture. It is represented in museum dioramas and textbook
figures, Saturday morning cartoons and feature films. The thing is, it's wrong."
