How bad will it be? Catastrophic. Proposed cuts to #NSF, #NIH, and #NASA will set the US R&D landscape back 25 yrs+, cause economic and job loss now, and undermine innovations to come. But, this is the WH's *proposed* budget. Speak up now before it is too late. (inflation adjusted $-s below)

In the past month 4 trainees in my lab lost: NIH diversity supplement, MARC, & STEP-Up funding. NSF SBE meeting (incl. ECRs) indefinitely postponed. Pipeline cuts disproportionately affect underrepresented scholars. Individual lives & our collective future impacted. #ScienceMatters

Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever they aren’t going into universities’ endowments they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research

Just found out NIH has officially canceled our grant, a longitudinal study of Alzheimer's disease in Black Americans. I cannot even put into words how angry I am. The truth is they are canceling it because it has Black in the title. That's it, there is no other reason to do this.

I was VERY skeptical of GLP1 drugs as a treatment for alcohol use disorder, but looks like that might be real (there is now solid evidence for T2D, CAD & obesity, observational for AUD, phase-2 for Parkinson’s). This being observational (but within person) ideally there would be trials next…

Trying to be generous, but a view from Trump supporter land is that cruelty toward others is minimally “acceptable” and potentially more feature than bug. Maybe obvious, but I hoped that it was mostly a misguided belief that grocery costs were within the president’s control.
