Been replaying FF VII Rebirth on Hard Mode on and off this year. Finally getting close to the last chapters, the game is indeed becoming difficult. Stuck on the 4th phase of the final boss of Chapter 12 and I just have to leave it, go to bed, and redo it all next time... And fail again no doubt 😭

Another thing that bothers me about the presentation of this new Ocarina is that the fine detail is getting lost, it looks like super-sampling is struggling to resolve hair, grass and other small details. Which would be fine, but there's so much of that in every frame, I find it super distracting

So I think they were trying to match the emotiveness of the N64 original character, which is where I think this falls apart. And part of the reason it does is because we've seen more emotive Links since then and they don't have that weird uncanny look.

I talked to someone relatively recently on Bluesky that was upset about Dean Takahashi's Cuphead review for IGN. After asking them several questions about that (like how no part of that claim was correct), they eventually just fell back on "Who cares about the details!"

impressively anti-intellectual! Criticism does not exist to predict the audience Metacritic score. Criticism is not consumer guidance. Critics are not reviewing kitchen appliances. Actually! A critic who reliably reproduces popular opinion is fucking useless.

And since press does still count, I ended up reviewing the reviewers too. Every outlet and creator gets a trust score based on one question: When they reviewed a game, did players end up agreeing? You can see who consistently calls games the way players see them, and who doesn't. Again, simple and fair.

This is set up for laughs, but it’s actually one of the best demonstrations I’ve seen of how being capable of producing convincing sounding language and understanding meaning are two completely different things.
