25 years ago today, the U.S. launched its war in Afghanistan. Weeks earlier, Barbara Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against the 2001 Authorization of Military Force, warning it would be a blank check for forever wars. History has proven her lonely and courageous vote right.

On September 28, 2026, the world (60°S–60°N,0-360°E) sea surface temperature was 21.15°C, an anomaly of 1.02°C vs 1982-2010. On September 19, 2026, the sea surface temperature was 21.18°C, a bit higher, but the anomaly was the same, i.e. 1.02°C vs 1982-2010. arctic-news.blogspot.com/2026/09/will...

With global temperatures quickly falling, this year saw 88 days with the global surface temperature above 16.5°C, the second most on record. The record holder is 2024, having 92 days above 16.5°C. The Climate Casino is taking the OVER on 100 days above 16.5°C in 2027.

Continuing its voyage into uncharted waters, the latest preliminary Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly is now at a record 3.08°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. Models expect the Nino 3.4 anomaly to continue rising into at least mid-November. Then there will be dragons.

Yesterday's Nino 3.4 SST was 29.73°C (preliminary), setting the 114th consecutive daily record, 0.93°C higher than the previous daily high set in 2015 and 3.78σ above the 1991-2020 mean. The highest recorded sea-surface temperature for the Nino 3.4 region is 29.82°C, set on November 17, 2015.

The “jaw-dropping” El Niño currently heating up the planet has burst through the highest temperature ever recorded for the phenomenon, several months before its expected peak.

Breaking News! Code FUBAR!!! Yesterday's Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly (preliminary) was a record 3.047°C above the 1991-2020 baseline, beating the previous record of 3.034°C set on November 19, 2015. It will take about 2 weeks to verify. Stay tuned!

Good article calling out the costs & consequences of car-centric cities. Any traffic engineer or city planner still working to lock in car dependent sprawl is guilty of professional malpractice. Arguments that “the market wants it” or “elected officials make the actual decisions” just don’t cut it.

Breaking News! Code UFB!!! Yesterday's (preliminary) Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature just broke past 3.0°C above the 1991-2020 baseline! This marks the 108th consecutive daily record, is 1.07°C above the previous daily record set in 1997, and is 4.02σ above the baseline.
