Seriously, my top learning advice to anyone trying to pick up a new skill is to try a project that you know is difficult for you, and finish it anyway. You might do a bad job, but you will learn soo much!

You might think I'm insane, but I have three more drafts planned out before I consider this thing done. Draft 4, fix all the character arcs. Draft 5, chapter and scene work. Draft 6, copy-editing and fact checking.

I hit the real end of the draft around 97k, but I left 3k of notes to myself for the draft 4, and I'm counting that toward the total.
