It's a complex area. A lot of what coping used to look like for me involved doing stuff I hated, or stuff that had significant components I hated, & just white knuckling through it, drinking heavily to numb the sirens. I thought I had to & I was pathetic & silly for struggling.

People tend to think of functional illiteracy as just being unable to read words aloud or such. What it *really* means is such as not being able to perceive subtext, context, understand who the audience of something may be, etc. Media illiteracy is fundamentally part of functional illiteracy.

We were really sick yesterday, so I didn't flip my @effinbirds.com calendar until today. I had to define "mundane" to my 9yo before she chose today's mad-lib. I died upon turning the page. IYKYK.
