Also: it is too hot. I hate this. I knew in my heart that the sun is a deadly laser, but experiencing actual temps of 103+ that then become closer to 110 with the heat index is just silly. Tempted to put an "AC God" in place instead of a kiln god... #melting #I'mtiredofthisgrandpa #andIt'sOnlyJuly

Weh heh heh, observe my big pile of books in a box!!! Always exciting to get a big pile of books in a box, even when you know exactly what they are and will (hopefully) not be holding on to any of them for long.
A cardboard box filled with green packing material. In the center of the box, lightly obscured by the packaging, are two columns of Flame-Keeper; Frost-Daughter books.

The Pride Angel of Dagon, nearly complete! At this point it just needs to rest a day then get some finishing touches. Why does it need to rest? It's more like I need to rest. With art, if you have the time, I think it's best to step away for a day or two before declaring it finished. #art #woodcut
Photo looking down at a black ink woodcut print on a worktable. The art is titled Angel of Dagon and depicts a humanoid sea creature with wing-like fins arrayed behind it. The figure is inspired by historic stingray taxidermy known as Jenny Hanivers. With glowing eyes dotting the wing-like fins, and a progress pride flag color scheme, it's a mix of some of what the artist loves best. Monsters, angels, and proud queerness.

Sometimes writing is prose singing on the page. Sometimes, however, writing is unhinged rambling spread between three documents, two notebooks, and an unholy amount of index cards and post-it notes that literally no one else could ever comprehend. #writerlife #iykyk #amwriting ...theoretically

Okay, today I am really for real going to continue working on the draft of the sequel to my first book. I have been putting it off for over a week now, and--oh, look, Canva! Clearly I should make a PROMOTIONAL BOOKMARK for my tiny indie book... ...why am I like this (at least it came out nice tho)
A bookmark featuring a background image of the starry night sky taken through red cliffs. Above the background is a column of icy-looking blue descending toward the middle, and a column of fire rising upward toward the middle. In the center, the text "Rise, O Stars, to guide us..." is featured in calligraphic font of off-white with a red shadow. The bookmark has a border that echoes the decorative elements of the book cover for Flame-Keeper, Frost-Daughter.The back of a bookmark. The background features a photograph of a starry night sky running like a river between two red cliffs. Above the background, a column of fire descends from the top, and a column of blue ice-like material rises from the bottom. In the center, the text "Sometimes destiny is a curse..." is followed by a picture of the book cover for Flame-Keeper, Frost-Daughter, which depicts two women of color in a manner similar to the Queen of Hearts playing card. The one on top is holding a wing of flame. The one on the bottom, in inverse, holds a monster skull formed of ice. Below the book cover, the text "Read it now!" is followed by a brief description of the book, reading: "A girl trying to save her people. A princess hiding dangerous secrets. A kingdom where monsters roam and ancient magic refuses to stay buried..." Finally, at the bottom of the bookmark, the logo for Kimerical Press (a silhouette of a chimera with a carousel pole through its back) is marked boldly.

I WROTE A BOOK. It's coming out SOON; now available for PREORDER and EBOOK PURCHASE. It's a darker YA fantasy with a sapphic romance set in Fantasy Americas instead of Fantasy Europe. There's magic, there's dead things that aren't dead, there's an enby. Check it: tinyurl.com/FKFDBookBN

If anyone ever tries to tell you that you gotta be a specific kind of person to be an artist, they're wrong. Being able to make art comes free with your humanity. In my view, people who say otherwise are either entirely full of themselves or can't escape what they've been conditioned to believe.

A photo of the back of a cat, hunched down on a cat tree and looking out a window. The cat's haunches are up in a way that resembles the large ears of an elephant, and the cat's tail hangs down in such a way that it looks like an elephant's trunk.

Rainy days are also not a problem for Junie Bloom, so long as she's got her cozy window bed and some nice pets!

Moths in a human suit (they/them) @lycomorpha.bsky.social · 05/07/2025
Poplar hawkmoth, I repeat, poplar hawkmoth. The Poplar hawkmoths have landed. 🦋🐾 Sometimes the world feels bleak, but moths keep me going. I've been a bit remiss with my moth posting lately, I'll try and share some more to make things a tiny, fluffy speck better.
An utterfuckingly magnificent fluffy grey poplar hawkmoth on my hand, in all it's fuzzy glory. It's body is warm and densely furry like a plush toy. It's wings are covered in bands of greys and browns, with lighter veins. Its forewings are large and have crenellated edges. The hindwings are smaller and held in a distinctive position so they protrude forward of the forewings. They are also crenellated or way at the edges. It has fuzzy legs and thick white antennas. Majestic, I tell you. An absolutely regal moth friend.

Tiny, but elegant. A Holm's hermit wears a checkered periwinkle shell. These are small intertidal hermits; full grown, they measure under 1 cm. toe to toe. The periwinkles live in the high intertidal zone. #VancouverIsland #HermitCrabs #IntertidalInvertebrates #Invertebrates #MarineLife #DailyHermit
This hermit crab is always orange and white, with alternating patches on the legs and eye stalks. The antenna is a dotted line, green and white; the eyes are dark.
This one wears a new, very clean periwinkle shell. The body whorl as well as the second have a pattern of white spots on a stripy green base; the third whorl is black with orange dots, and the next three (very small) are brown and white.
For size comparison, the sand grains underneath the hermit are, on average, as wide as the hermit's legs.
Background, a bluish-green stone, another periwinkle shell, pointing away from us, and a lump of yellow-green kelp float.

God, Sawkill Girls was such a good read. I had so many Feelings about every one of those girls and even some of the side characters. I really liked the message, too, and it didn't feel as heavy handed as others have been for me. The monster? Terrifying. The queer romance? Fantastic. 📚💙

I don't really like the term "writer's block," because it just doesn't really encompass what's actually going on. Today, I described it as "creative constipation." It may be crude, but it's so accurate; I'm full of ideas and details and bits and bobs, but I can't quite get them out 😹
