Got up early in hopes of catching this photo before work this morning. There's only a few days each year where it's cool enough in the morning to make this shot possible. Thankfully, today was one of those days! #wildlife #birds
A red winged blackbird's breath can be seen as he sings his morning song. The bird is sitting on a cattail and the rising morning sun illuminates his breath.

I was asked to speak with a graduate class today about research data management. I was asked, "How do people become convinced that beginning data management early on in a project is worth it?" Me: "Suffering. They usual have to suffer first." 😅

there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

‘Nickname’ is not ‘nick’ + ‘name.’ It was originally ‘ekename.’ ‘Eke’ was the Middle English word for “also” or “in addition.” Since ‘ekename’ began with a vowel, people used ‘an’ before it. Over time, 'an ekename' became 'a nickname.'

Pro-tip - when you're reusing code (say, code from precipitation data, applied to temperature data), remember to update any unit conversions you're doing. Otherwise you'll be very confused trying to figure out why the maximum monthly temperature in your 30-year period is 1.13.
