Text - Desden saw his uncle lift a hand as he said, “Wait! Do you hear that?”
He saw his uncle move the hand to his ear, then turn directly to the bookcase his eye was perched on, and swiftly grab for it, shrouding him in darkness. The mental connection to Dimamire failed as wave of panic swept through him. He opened his left eye, backing away from the door as it was thrown open. The subtle expression of anger and disappointment on his uncle's face was horrifying. But the man spoke calmly, as he usually did. He unfolded his fingers, revealing the eye in his hand, “Hello Desden.”
“Hello Uncle Trombolt,” replied Desden, slowly reaching for the eye, “I see you found my eye. I've been looking for that, sometime it just crawls off.”
“It just crawls off?” asked his uncle skeptically as he wrapped his fingers around the eye once more before Desden could retrieve it. Calmly he asked, “Where's your cousin?”
“Uh, can't say that I know. Maybe the reading room?” replied Desden staring at his uncle's closed hand desperately. His uncle gave the slightest smirk, “Come now Desden, I know you hate being alone. You know where he is, don't you?”
“I'm not alone. I've got Buddy,” argued Desden, point up at the little green and pink lovebird nestled down in his hair. They both knew Buddy was imp in disguise, acting as his familiar. If you were to compare Buddy to an actual lovebird, there'd definitely be a few discrepancies.

With Pelican Cove’s fragile ecosystem and coastal economy in crisis, Josie’s project at the Conservation Center puts her directly in Will’s orbit. The electric chemistry is still there, but so are the ghosts of who they used to be—and the reality that Josie is leaving. Again.
As summer stretches into fall, between long days on the water and a storm that changes everything, Josie begins to question where she truly belongs—and what it would mean to stay.
