it truly is just perfect that a republican — you know, the party that so badly wants to protect women athletes — used a senate hearing to confidently, and falsely, accuse a lawyer of perjury because he and his entire staff forgot that women’s sports exists

Eric Schmitt is what happens when a state becomes so red that you don’t need to be a talented politician to become a US Senator. And to be fair, there are examples of this in blue states too. Iron sharpens iron.

the horrific cornell gang rape case has me thinking about emma sulkowicz who alleged she was raped as a student at columbia in 2014 and never got any justice. it has me thinking about the physical and mental weight young women are forced to carry while their safety is subsumed by male potential.

Of course as differentiated from protecting women, which they could give two shits about. Just the great "men playing women's sports" scare bullshit, which doesn't stand up to any sort of scrutiny, scientific or statistical.

You know when public attention can reverse a prosecutorial decision like this you almost get the sense that the decision to shrug it off in the first place was not based on an assessment of the quality of the evidence so much as an assessment of the seriousness of the crime.

The Evanston RoundTable in my Chicago suburb interviewed 2 people who saw ICE agents beat up a citizen and leave him lying on the ground last weekend. One witness said the man “was screaming ‘I'm a U.S. citizen. Leave me alone.’” Another witness said the feds told an “absolute lie” about the case.

This is why it's not 'just football.' 'Politics has no place in sport' is a really convenient line if you're actively engaging in genocide and would rather the world didn't discuss it. Israel are well aware of the power of sportswashing. They're usually just too shit to take advantage of it.
The leadership of the Israel team used their press conference to read a statement congratulating Ireland on their decision to play. “What we have seen today is that football has won,” it read. “The separation between football and politics must continue. Anything else spells chaos and creates consequences for the game we love. The Irish took the right decision in agreeing to this. Even if it took longer than it should, it was welcome.”

The only only sportsman and the only real man among them, standing head and shoulders above the cowards in the squad, the coaching staff and the FAI. This is how simple it is to do the right thing.
A statement from Ireland goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu that says:

Representing my country means everything to me. I have the utmost respect for every single one of my team mates, the Manager, his staff and the Irish people.

However I have reached a decision that I have not taken lightly. I am a man of strong faith and try my best to be a person of character and principle therefore I feel it would be wrong to participate in the upcoming fixtures against Israel.

My decision is based purely upon my personal belief that the killing of innocent people is wrong.

It is important to note that my stance is not in opposition of the Israeli people or the Jewish community but against the atrocities in the region.

There are few times where you get a chance in life to stand up for something bigger and I strongly believe that this is one of them.

You know a country is broken when a 71-year-old woman gets run over and killed by a person driving a cement truck and people in the story comments say the equivalent of, "What was she doing in the street," or "She should have been paying attention."

Again, I wonder if the Republicans think people are that stupid (they are), that they can scream any distraction, from Furries to "they are transing your kids in a single school day!" When you have nothing to run on, it just becomes appeals to bigotry and stupidity. (It will work, sadly.)

I want to hate this and call it stupid and a thing nobody needs, but hear me out. As someone who had a debilitating stutter for so much of their life, making calls to places to ask about stuff used to bring about the sweats. The person on the other end doesn't know you're struggling to speak.
