My favorite part of having dogs is when they're laying on the floor and when you go to step over them they suddenly jump up as you're mid-stride and tag you in the nuts. Wonderful, 10/10 experience. Highly recommend it.

I made the mistake of doing well on the ASVAB test (don't ask me why I took it, I don't remember) and I was 30 before the recruiters stopped calling. You'd think they'd pass on a fat dude with asthma and autism, but they were PERSISTENT.

When the sun came up, Capt. Moore found he was at the latitude 50° 8' W. He'd passed Boxhall's position, but he could see Titanic's lifeboats even further east on the other side of the ice. He knew she couldn't have passed that ice wall, only to strike a berg on the other side.

This data was available in 1912, but only one person I know of ever challenged Boxhall's position: Captain Moore of the SS Mount Temple, who raced to the rescue from the northwest, only to be stopped by a wall of ice.

To reach Boxhall's position by 11:40PM, #Titanic would have to average 23.2 knots for the day. Not impossible, but faster than she was believed to be going. To reach Smith's position by 11:40 PM, The average speed needs to be 23.8 knots. Just barely possible for Titanic. But again, unlikely.

This obviously disproves any notion that #Titanic was steered south to avoid the ice. She was holding the normal track for that time of year very closely. What I haven't figured out is why so few questioned the distress positions until the wreck was found.

Conveniently, that works out to another 5 hour 50 minute segment at about 22 knots, for a run of about 128 miles. The end of this run is at about 41° 46' N, 49° 56' W. Less than 4 miles from the center of the wreck site.

We know where her wreck is now, and we can estimate accurately where she was on April 14, 1912 using data from her surviving crew. Starting from the top right, we have the position of her noon sights: 43° 2' N, 44° 31' W. (126 miles from 42°N 47°W on a course of 240.5°)

So I found an old notebook recently and found a bit of a puzzle related to #Titanic that I was working on. This is my reconstruction of her progress on her final day afloat. Most who have studied the disaster know that the wreck is quite far east of where her crew thought she was.

Collision with the iceberg: 41° 46' North 49° 56' West

Captain Smith's distress position: 41° 44' North, 50° 24' West

4th Officer Boxhall's distress position: 41° 46' North, 50° 14' West

Both distress positions are far west of where the ship actually sank.
