Fact-checking services cost $$$$, particularly specialized fact checkers. Prepping a book for that kind of scrutiny is also a huge undertaking. And it's absolutely not possible to fact check your own work to the standard of an independent checker. You're too close to it. Can't be done.

We really need to stop referring to these machines as “dogs.” That’s a descriptor given to them as part of a years long PR campaign to normalize their presence in civilian spaces. They are marketed as mobile surveillance and weapons platforms. We need to call them that.

My most recent half-thought is about "AI" and cultural/social capital. Can't help but think it's going to become another marker of status in some way -- those who "have to" resort to LLMs, those who can afford a graphic designer, those with the time to do x.

I genuinely wonder if the weird right wing insistence on her neutrality had to do with the fact that she performed hyperfemininity. They saw her makeup and hair and tight clothes and that excused her clearly progressive politics. I also wonder if Dolly knew exactly that would happen.

Glad to see some reporting on this. When I first posted on July 17 about these incidents where an airline worker is asked or tricked into helping ICE, person who told me was too afraid of being identifiable for me to report it out. Bottom line: If you are not a citizen, do not use US air travel rn.

I saw video this week from another major airport of a woman being taken by plainclothes ICE after an airline worker paged them to the ticket counter.
Worker clearly didn't know it was ICE asking them to page and was upset. They follow, asking ICE for a warrant & woman who they can call for her.
