Look, aside from the outrageousness of this pure fluff piece, what on earth is the basis for the tories requiring a bigger capacity conference? How do any of their terrible polling and losses translate into new members or members in any way arsed to rally their leader? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The 2026 Conservative conference is big enough to justify using Birmingham's Symphony Hall as its main stage again.
So, Kemi Badenoch will tread the same stage ageing rockers Marillion took last month - and where sequinned soprano Katherine Jenkins will perform next week. She'll also avoid the humiliation of a national party leader being squashed into a side room at a corporate conference centre (with drapes portioning off the empty space). Simply, the party is able to put bums on seats again - and by that measure, things are looking up

a mainstream leftist media in this country should (rightly) also bang on about the 70s, but as the culmination of 30 years of victories, with income equality levels and the apogee of public housing provision. These are the unconscious reasons why the right are so obsessed with the period imo

can really imagine railway companies in the 1860s issuing warnings that their technology could be used for troop and prisoner movements in some future war of industrialised killing. Oh, except that railways by and large actually made money.

In fact, these are scenes we have not seen on British streets. Immigration needs to be deal with, I will be the first to say that and we are dealing with it. The boat crossings have been halved since six years ago, net migration is down massively.

How about we increase benefits for working age people, this is not a race to the bottom. And quoting the OBR like who cares about a Tory quango designed to give a so-called objective view of short term neoliberal economic policies
poverty is real too. Choosing to shield pensioners from the harsh economic realities of the last few years has hit some of their children and grandchildren unfairly hard: while pensioner benefits rose in real terms by £900 between 2010-11 and 2024-25, benefits for children and working-age people fell by £1,400, according to the Resolution Foundation thinktank. Yet anyone daring to make that case at the next election for breaking the lock can expect to be mercilessly shelled by rivals, including those who deep down agree with them.
