Research from New York City notes that newly installed protected bike lanes do more than keep bikers safe--they raise the income of the stores they are in front of.

Hey Vancouver, tomorrow is the next early voting day. Find a polling station near you and go vote! If you don’t know who to vote for & one of the things you care about is active transportation / safe streets, check out @visionzerovancouver.ca’s election guide here. visionzerovancouver.ca/vote/
Two stickers on a utility pole. The first reads “Ken Sim and ABC left a 400+ year backlog on sidewalk repairs. Vote for road safety: visionzerovancouver/ca/vote”
The second sticker bears an imagine of Ken Sim and reads “Ken $im hates poor people.”

ANALYSIS | Eby puts needs of car owners ahead of transit advocates in ruling out Metro Vancouver vehicle levy | CBC News
For the last 18 months, a vehicle levy has been talked about by TransLink as a potential way to create a more sustainable funding model, as revenue from fuel taxes continues to decline. But all that w...

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc. Choices. Simple.
Graphic showing a single lane 9 m wide track for metros, a 35 m wide road for buses with four lanes, and a 175 m wide road for cars with seven lanes, making the point that one single track of Metro replaces seven lanes of car traffic. Mobility in cities is about space.

So embarrassing when people think the point of reading a novel is to know the plot, so a summary is just as good. The plot isn’t important, you rube. You absolute simpleton. The point of reading a novel is to find out what the characters are eating and start thinking about what you want for dinner.

I’d like to see development incentives for tree retention. Like a living space bonus for projects that keep mature trees. It would offset the cost of protecting trees during development, and encourage tree retention early in the design process

Active travel can help tackle the climate crisis earlier than electric vehicles – even if you swap the car for a bike for just one trip a day.

The Swiss approach to land use is grossly under-rated/under-promoted compared to all our other favorite examples. They sprinkle 6- and 8-story apartments through suburban neighborhoods with single-family mansions and people are mostly fine with it. Everything is walking distance to a bus or train.
