Also, recall that I examined grant title changes for evidence of “remediation” and found 777 grants with titles changed from 2024 to 2025. Here is a word cloud of the removed words.
A word cloud with the largest words being Equity, Disparity, Health, Diverse, and Racial.

German academia: great place to work? You should think twice before giving it a try: Permanent positions are very rare, most scholars have to drop out after some precarious years. @dianakwon.bsky.social has written a great piece about this for @nature.com and also talked to yours truly. #IchBinHanna

remember that word gap narratives and ideologies don’t just frame marginalised children as linguistically deficient but also point the finger at their parents for their allegedly inferior parenting skills. the stigma attached to the word gap is intergenerational.

Random post in the midst of (gestures) ALL THIS, but I discovered recently that Michael Tomasello got his PhD in my department (UGA Psychology), and so a copy of his dissertation has been sitting on a shelf down the hall from my office for the last 27 years. #psychsky #developmentalpsychology
Conference room in the UGA Psychology building. Large wooden table with black chairs in the middle. Large bookshelves with lots of black bound dissertations around the room. A large wooden desk, which belonged to AS Edwards, is on the left side of the picture. A copy of Michael Tomasello’s dissertation. Title is “A conceptual analysis of one child’s early use of words” and the name William Michael Tomasello, all embossed in gold lettering on the black bound bookThe final page of the dissertation, which includes the following closing paragraph:

“Let me conclude by saying that language, as perhaps no other human phenomenon, brings together all of the most important aspects of human development. Apprenticeship in language use teaches the child both how the culture thinks and how its members interact with each other. Once learned, language provides him with the tools he will need for all his higher endeavors. It even provides him with tools for changing the culture.” Dissertation title page with some signatures that are hard to read. Dissertation is dated August 1980.

In my opinion, inclusion and equity aren’t opposites. In my opinion, treating all children the same, despite differing needs, is unfair. Hence, individualized logopedic/SLT support enables true inclusion. And: inclusion mustn’t be used as an excuse for staff cuts at schools.
