Humaning.

A four-panel comic. In panel 1, a Northern Cardinal and American Goldfinch perch above a busy crowd in a city, looking down. The cardinal says "It's a nice day to go humaning." The goldfinch says "Just look at them. Majestic." In panel 2, a close-up of the two birds. The cardinal says "Nobody tells you that you'll reach a certain age and suddenly get into humaning. I hit 3 years old, and then bam."The birds are looking out over the crowd scene. In panel 3, the cardinal says "Their calls sound funny to us, but each one has a unique meaning." Below, people are saying various things: "I'm tired." "Where's my phone?" "I'd murder a burrito." In panel 4, the birds look down excitedly at a man walking by. The cardinal says "Wait, is that a guy who got dressed in the dark and put his shirt on inside out and backwards?" And the goldfinch exclaims, "Holy... that's a lifer!"

For #BirdOfTheDay theme #AngryBirds, a Clark's Grebe with a face of pure anger, defending his territory from another male. This look was accompanied by an unnerving croak. Taken yesterday at San Joaquin Marsh.

Clark's Grebe ready to set fire to anyone who wrongs him. Head feathers fluffed up, glowing red eyes dilated to pinpoints, beak open to emit an unnerving croak.

#Birds Alan H says today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #AngryBirds, any bird with an angry face. This Barrow's Goldeneye hen was giving me her best 'I'm napping, flock off' look.

A duck floating on rippled taupe coloured waters. It has a copper coloured head & dark grey looking plumage. The beak is tucked under a wing and a single visible yellow eye glares at the camera.

Tap into your creative side for today's #BirdOfTheDay theme: #BirdsInAbstract From motion blur, obscure angles, or contrasting textures, anything goes! Show us your interpretation! 😊 Here's my contribution-can you guess who she is? 📷 🪶 It's open house, so no Alt theme today! Happy Saturday🕊️

An abstract close-up photograph emphasising starkly contrasting textures and geometric form rather than the literal identity of the subject. A sharp, wedge-like shape cuts horizontally across the lower half of the frame against a softly blurred, warm tan background. It is slate-grey in colour with subtle, marble-like blue highlights, mimicking the appearance of cast metal or polished stone. The upper portion of the image is dominated by a dense, fibrous texture of warm brown, velvety dense short bristles. The composition relies entirely on minimalism and form. The overall effect strips away the context of the natural world, transforming an intimate biological detail into a study of line, shape, and surface texture. This abstract framing also can trick the brain into finding a hidden face within texture and line. The entire image shifts from a literal biological close-up into a peaceful, minimalist portrait of what could be a sleeping creature!

It’s #WorldShorebirdDay and this Greater Yellowlegs is celebrating with some interpretative dance! #Birds 🪶

A Greater Yellowlegs lands in a very shallow marsh. The water is very calm so there is a reflection, and the yellowlegs looks like it’s running with its one leg up and its wings out for balance. The water is green and yellow as it reflects the colour of the early Fall reeds on the shore.
