🕹️ Bytes of Gaming History ⏳ A glimpse of Sega Japan sometime in 1991 during the development of Golden Axe too, snapped from a Megaforce magazine feature. Not only do we get a lovely photo of Sega HQ in Tokyo, but some very cool shots of how game art was created and then digitised onto the screen.

A photo of Sega HQ, a white-and-glass tower, seen from an upward looking angle so it looms

Two Sega artists at a Digitizer Mark III unit, with one standing and pointing at a screen with a large sprite of Ax Battler on the screen while another manipulates a mouse-like device over a large pad while sat in front of the terminal.

A really neat shot of the Digitizer Mark III and its screens, and a very busy desk with floppies and the digitizer pad and handheld device you slide around it.

A snot of the studio/workshop with many desks and computers and crt monitors filling every square foot of space aside from space to walk around

A two panel digital coloured sketch of Gyaos from Gamera. The 1st panel is of Gyaos looking at the viewer with an annoyed expression. He is shown from the shoulders up and there is a speech bubble with a question mark beside him. The 2nd panel has Gyaos blurred out of focus as Gamera's hand is shown reaching towards him and holding a Dorito. The Dorito is being held over Gyaos' head to mimic it's triangular shape.

A 5 panel digital greyscale comic of Gamera and Gyaos from Gamera.

Panel 1 shows a grassy hill with a cave in it, it is midday and there is a sign in the foreground with the text “Gyaos Cave. Keep Out” written on it. Gamera’s tail and part of his shell are visible in the mouth of the cave and a voice from within is asking: “So, how’s the arm?”

Panel 2 shows the inside of the cave, where Gamera and Gyaos are sitting across from each other, both have calm expressions. Gamera is gesturing to his forearm and saying: “All healed! You?” Gyaos replies with “Oh, I am so ready for a rematch. Next time you should rip off my leg.”

Panel 3 is a close up of Gyaos, he is smirking and continues by saying: “And hit me with it.”

Panel 4 shows Gamera from the shoulders up with a concerned expression. He says: “Oh my… Gyaos, that’s horrific!”

Panel 5 is identical except now Gamera appears excited, he continues with: “The kids are gonna LOVE that! There will be so much blood!”

someone's a little cranky

A 4 panel digital grey scale comic featuring Gamera, Barugon, and "space Gyaos" from Gamera. The first panel shows Space Gyaos from the waist up, his wings are outstretched and his expression is agitated. He is yelling: "Why do I have to be "space" Gyaos? That's not fair!" In the foreground are the silhouettes of Barugon and Gamera.

The second panel is a slightly closer up version of the first, with space Gyaos' wings lowered as he points to Gyaos in the background. Space Gyaos is saying: "I should be just Gyaos! Call them "Earth" Gyaos!"

The third panel is of Gamera and Barugon standing beside each other, both have a smug expression.

The last panel is identical except now Barugon is pointing forwards and saying: "Space Gyaos seems upset."

"Say that shit again." utters Victor, a tall blue robot-toy-bird-man, leering over his shoulder. His eyes are colored a particular cyan. He has an AUX port on his back, because he's an MP3 player.

"You heard me." retorts Vance, a short robot-toy-dog-man, resting his arm on a couch, glaring up at Victor with particularly green eyes.

"Say it one more time." presses Victor.

"You" starts Vance, gazing up between his cream-colored bangs, hanging low from under the beanie he's wearing,
"Crinkle-Cut French Fry-Fuck."

Victor holds still, saying nothing. He's holding some fries. Both are silent.

"
"Say it again." he presses further, gaze impossible to place. He's drawn with low detail here, though his beak seems to be parting to form a smile.

"You Crinkle. Cut. French-Fry-Fuck." spits Vance, off-screen. Victor begins to giggle,
"hehe
"Hehehahaha again again again!!!" cheers Victor, laughing heartily.

"Crinkle CUT french fry FUCK" repeats Vance, grinning wickedly in satisfaction over making his boyfriend laugh.

Mechtober 3: Video Games Many will argue over "the best". Mechanically, the least "faithful" of the PC games, IMO, MW:4 is goated thru sheer replayability & the popularity of the new mechs introduced. Wanna see these continue, drop a tip or sponsor a Mechtober piece, here ko-fi.com/bishopsbeerf...

Mechtober 3: Video Games

I've played all the PC Games, from Crescent Hawk thru MW5, Both Mech Commanders, HBS Battletech, the SNES Mechwarrior game, Sega Genesis Battletech 3050, Mech Assault (still own 2, tho have never played it IIRC), so not 100% exhaustive list, but.. dang close.

Enjoyed almost all for what they were, with the Console Games being the "least".. but still recognize them as legit gateways.

But as the speed sketch might indicate.. IMO, MW4 is far and away still the "best", in regards to ease of controls, replayability, and even the import of the new Mechs that it introduced, which are probably the single most recognizable machines (Uziel, Osiris, Chimera, Hellspawn, Argus, Thanatos, Mad Cat mkII, etc) since TRO 3050 introduced the original 16 omnis way back in 1990.

I know MW2 Mercs has it's ride or die crowd, as does MW3, and in many regards, they did have greater fidelity to the core game (though far from a 1 to 1, contrary to protestations), but going back today, IMO, none fully hold up (though again, I can still enjoy them), but all have things that I miss, whether it was the Underwater Maps in the MW2 Ghost Bear game, or such.

Still and all, I think the reception the release of the various MW4 mechs in plastic really backs up the impact that MW4 Vengeance and Mercs had on the franchise and fanbase.
