I feared this would happen. His story was troubling but the wave of hatred and obsession in the media when he was clearly someone who was vulnerable - whatever you thought of him - was entirely disproportionate and in my view fuelled by racists. My thoughts are with his loved ones tonight.

It's OK for criminal ex-neo Nazis to run your bins is a hell of a line.
Tweet from x.com by Kevin Schofield of HuffPost:

NEW: Kemi Badenoch says what former neo-Nazi Joshua Bonehill-Paine did was "appalling and abhorrent", suggests she wouldn't want him to be a Tory MP, but says it's OK for him to be a councillor because they only deal with things like "parking and putting out bins".

Agree 100% - there’s definitely a culture in academia where it’s perceived as uncouth to broach the subject of payment for invited talks/keynotes etc - and the result is often unpaid labour.

Endorsement quote from Karin Wahl-Jorgensen for the book, Media Change: Contemporary Cases, Consequences, and Conceptualizations: (Wiley, 2026):

"This strikingly original, engaging and accessible book is essential reading for anyone seeking to make sense of changes in our media landscape. The book’s richly detailed exploration of varied case studies – from live blogs to AI and internet pornography – sheds light on why and how transformations take place. In doing so, it challenges technologically determinist accounts, reminding us of the complexity of change."

I will restate my modest proposal to save the BBC: ban the BBC from covering itself. Every BBC scandal goes huge, because every BBC News show wants to assert its independence by covering it prominently, even if several other shows already did. So it gets blanket headlines.
