No time frame on the amount Trump claims. Europe is moving as fast as they can to stop buying gasoline and natural gas from Russia. How are they doing that? They're investing in renewable energy which is cheaper than fossil fuels. #Europe #Russia #fossilfuels #Trump

The energy independence vs fossil fuel dependence framing is just another econ 101 excuse for business to do harm. The only econ 101 concept that is not pro-business/anti-human is Jevons Paradox, and that is usually "explained" with the "demand" excuse for business to do harm.

They don't need monopoly to price gouge. They do need to obey companies above them in the economic hierarchy of companies. Big rail would thrive upon electrification, and they know it, but they collude to resist electrification, because big oil prohibits it. Destroy an oil company, let rail climb.

"Competition" is another one of those econ 101 epicycles to the metaphysics of business doing harm. Anti-trust is a joke. Companies in the same industry understand each other better than they understand consumers, and they have more reason to understand each other than understanding consumers.

I often see people argue that clean energy is not reducing emissions, because it just adds to rather than replaces fossil fuels. This argument is deeply misguided – clean energy built since 2005 has displaced 23 billion tons. I dive in over at The Climate Brink:

What if the world hadn't built wind and solar?
Clean energy does not simply “add to” global energy use; it displaces fossil sources that would otherwise get built.
