This may be how politics works, but it is not how politics should work. The rot goes deeper than just regulatory capture. The whole popularity contest form of democracy is worse than lifetime appointments, per-state representation, and gerrymandering combined. We need a democratic economy.

There's the Nvidia CEO nodding along. What are CEOs paid the big bucks for? It's to lie. True, their internal lies differ from their public lies, but they are such good liars that it does not even phase them. Why do brainless multinationals need to prominently employ liars? To prevent voter wisdom.

Concern over AI is just another end times distraction from true concern over climate change. My experience protects me from falling into the anti-AI cult. I've had experience with traditional cults, so I know what to avoid. My philosophy is to put things in perspective.

We banned hairspray. We should ban jet fuel. We'd notice it no more, but big oil would make a stink, because they can't maintain their keeling curve rate of hiring without the margins from jet fuel. If you think capitalists invest in AI without permission from oil companies, I've got a nuke to sell.

I've read exactly zero theory, but I gather that Marx was an industrial socialist. That's so last century. I thought you anti-boomers were supposed to be hip. Industry is just capitalism by another name. We need an anti-industry socialism. Destroy an oil major to create fertile ground for startups.

Coal and natural gas power plants in the U.S. withdraw approximately 183 trillion liters of water per year or about a trillion liters every two days.

The Water Footprint of Energy
Energy production - especially thermoelectric power production - uses a lot of water for once-through cooling. So does refining transportation fuels.

AI grew exponentially at the same time as renewables grew exponentially. Coincidence, I think not. AI is using all the excess energy produced by renewables, just to keep it from going to waste. Data centers use natural gas, you say? Some consumer has to use it to keep it from going to waste.

I'm a breathing collection of organs with a metaphysics of my own that has not been decimated as completely as the supply "demand" metaphysics that most of you are struggling to prop up, so I don't need this. But if you need papers to get you past the AI hype, then here. youtu.be/claxN4oxDuY?...

There will be plenty after we do the necessary thing, and destroy an oil company, but only for those that don’t cling to their dependence on fossil fuel. Some think they can ease the “transition” by providing “alternatives”, but they can’t. I’m no profit, just alone in my thinking.

I wouldn't call it greed, because greed is not mindless. I wouldn't blame boardrooms, because board members are just as helpless as entry level employees. But yes, the systems responsible have names, KochtapusIndustries, ExxonKnew, ChevronSues, etc. Can't reason with them; destroy them.

The keeling curve is a perfect parabola. Perfect parabolas do not arise from discontinuous processes. Renewables are a discontinuity. Covid was a discontinuity. Hormooz is a discontinuity. The only system that is continuous over the span over the span of the keeling curve is oil companies.

I get that us programmers are the most horribly biased units out there, but non-programmers talking about ai is a bit rich. Fine, economics is the religion of our current dark ages, but claiming expertise is not what ended the last dark ages. They should have spared us and demolished the cathedrals.

This notion that you can’t unplug AI if it gets smart enough is absurd. Of course, the smarter it gets, the more energy it uses, and the easier it is to unplug, by destroying an oil major. It’s your lack of imagination that is killing us, by preventing us from voting companies out of business.

Whining about AI is like whining about cigarette commercials. Tobacco is still going strong without advertising, and big oil will be fine without Hormooz. If anything, advertising reduced the number of addicts. Advertising is not for consumers; it's for other companies. AI is big oil showing off.

Blocked for stating the truth. That you fell into a trap is not a judgement on your character. It just means you cannot face the truth. Never fear, your subconscious will bother you until you find therapy to understand that you fell into a trap. Then you can join me to destroy an oil company.

F*ck seizing the means of production. I've come to the realization that we have to destroy the means of production. USofPetro$ revisionist history has us believe Hitler was defeated when he committed suicide. In fact, it was the destruction of Nazi factories that ended it.

Not only does no one but a few understand the proof, no one understands what this means for the field. After AI beat the grandmasterest human, Queen's Gambit, online chess, speed chess, and chess fandom happened. Whoda thunk it. I look forward to the consensus on whether the proof is valid.

Why everyone suddenly concerned by economic psychosis. Fine, AI thinks we have six finger hands. But fossil fuel companies have believed they do more good than harm since forever. Worse, capitalists have always believed "demand" is real and relates to supply and price. Absurd.

I'm no scientist, but I stand with breathing collections of organs, not just humans. It's semantic, because surviving in a monoculture is impossible, but as a goal it has different means. Standing with humanity means jobs over spotted owls, which is self defeating. Stand with the spotted owls.

Exxon knew about more than climate change. Exxon knew about Jevon's Paradox. Exxon knew about things no one else yet knows about. That's why big oil allowed the transition from power hungry tubes to transistors. They knew the increase in efficiency would increase energy use.

The military "siphons resources from emissions reduction". Omg, the USofPetro$ mindset is so backwards. Emissions reduction does not take resources, it saves resources. It is not a silly energy "transition". It is conservation from start to finish.

Tut tut, but you can't dismiss me, because I probably have a smaller footprint than you. It's fine to build renewables and force data centers into other people's back yards, but only if you keep your eyes on the prize. The prize is destroying oil companies. Destroying tech companies is mere practice

I hope Canada becomes a Valve Turner. We absolutely do want to reduce crude imports. Simply reduce some refining capacity to lower costs, and thus prices. This whole traditional economic metaphysics that the only way to reduce prices is to increase production is why we are in all of the messes.

The fact that Trump is a fascist, and usurping him will change nothing, says it all. Our problems are much worse than in WWII or the Depression. Now, we can't just make a jobs program, or wage war. We have to destroy an oil company, much more consequential. The dividends will be sweeter.

There is more to sewer socialism than just doing what we relied upon mayors to do since forever. The implication is that you are opening swimming pools instead of bending over backwards for penthouse dwellers. It is in the spirit of degrowth, the least ecocidal widespread ideology.

This is the last chance the rest of the world is going to give the USofPetro$. If we double down on restoring fossil fuel production, despite hormooz, instead of knuckling under, and reducing production, according to what Iran dictates, there will be no forgiving us, a lost cause.

I think YIMBYs bit off more than they can chew. Their ideology is market fundamentalism applied to local government. Opening up ideology to housing is a dragon that cannot be tamed. Preservationists have put thought into it, but preservation is not profitable. Hong Kong is a YIMBY's wet dream.

Punditry that rewards a ground game is only slightly less onerous than punditry that rewards curb appeal. Laughing at Trump's mistress riding in his trunk is just entertainment to pass the time until he leaves office. Just propose the correct policy, destroying oil companies, and they will come.

Capitalism depends on asymmetry. It is only by giving Republicans a pass, and holding Democrats to irrational standards, that capitalism is sustainable. Unlimited growth of failed experiments, such as AI and fossil fuel, are the other necessary ingredient for capitalism.

Waldo's quote was about foolish consistency, not self consistency. Self consistency is an effective way to avoid foolish consistency. If your foundational ideas creak and groan under new ideas built on top of them, then it's time to go back to the drawing board.

My understanding is that Woke 1 was DEI invented by student riots at San Francisco State in the 60s. Some of the intersectional studies, that resulted from the student demands, came up with pronouns and such. True, there were also anti-war protests at Kent, and free speech protests at Berkeley.

The problem with centrist whining about Israel is that they conflate separate issues. Right to exist, antisemitism, sending bombs, and ability to exist are four orthogonal dimensions. If it can’t exist without bombs, then maybe it shouldn’t, whether it has the right or not.

My corporate darwinism idea keeps evolving. At the start, it was an attempt to find common ground with libertarians that want government out of business. I thought they were cruel to allow only cops and war, despite pretending to be kind. So, I proposed a constructive outlet for their cruelty.
