Hah saw that JCO post about romance books that has everyone riled up and like... that's just the 'manufactured music' nonsense from popular music haters reskinned. Most books in all genres are formulaic. They're designed to meet reader expectations and that's a good thing actually!

My wife made me watch the promo video for that AI dot agent thing and aside from the whole thing being painfully stupid, it really highlights how the people making this stuff don't get it. I interact with computer so I DON'T have to talk to anyone, why are they making up people for me to talk to?! 😭

Wife called today to check everything was all right because she saw I'd gone offline. There was obviously a little more context to this but the fact that my going outside was the final trigger is spectacular. 🤣

I was making potato and leek soup and the recipe asked for five potatoes cubed. Even for potato soup, 125 potatoes seems a little excessive.

I don't know that Texas song per the recent discourse and have no opinions about it, but I did find it funny to see people accusing those who haven't heard of, "never going outside". I go outside plenty: preferably to places without 1000 other people and constant ambient music. Heard of nature? 🤣

Lol I adopted a Neopet called poo_poo_wee_wee as a lab rat, made her a nice Woodland Zafara, and then when I released her for re-adoption she almost immediately got pinged as having an 'inappropriate' name and nuked. Great work protecting the 30+ year old core Neopets userbase there. 🤣

An error message from Neopets with a bright red header stating 'Oops!' and the message, 'Error: This Neopet name has been deemed inappropriate.'

A blurry screenshot of a sad Woodland Zafara pet from Neopets. The only remaining known image of poo_poo_wee_wee, gone but forever in my fa---uh, heart.

Devastated, I just came up with a brilliant context in which to discuss the Streisand effect in my story but this book is set in 2003 so I'm not sure the term itself would be in widespread usage yet. But maybe that just gives me an opportunity to explain it properly...

ultimately the problem isnt discord its age verification laws. any platform people would move to away from discord would obviously eventually be big enough to also be under scrutiny from International Lawmakers. thus likely forcing them to implement age verification as well

One thing I'm always reminded of when moving through public spaces with an infant/toddler is how weirdly entitled some people are about invading parents' space. I don't mean people going 'aw how cute!' in passing or commiserating on parenting difficulties, it's a whole other thing.

Back from a weekish of holiday in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Bit of a slog travelling with kids to say the least but they really benefited from and enjoyed it (mostly) and sometimes we suffer for the benefit of the kids. 🤭 I really regret taking my laptop and getting it dinged up though. 😭

I feel like some of the objection to the liberties being taken here is coming from people who haven't read some of the Narnias since childhood. The ship has sailed some years ago on faithful adaptations of all the books and some of them would make terrible movies taken too straight anyway!

Catching up on the paint dot net drama and entirely aside from my feelings on generative AI usage I think it's hilarious that the developer blew so much goodwill specifically to make the software maybe sorta run under Linux: that is, not even for the current core userbase. 🙃

The latest update on the Nomad Drive Put Ears On My Van Project. I don't think the demo is coping well with what I'm doing. The van was rolling around like it was drunk when I loaded my save up tonight. 🤭

A van on the road in the Nomad Drive demo. A bucket sits behind it, but the most notable detail is the stacks of tyres attacked sideways to each side of the van, which are getting beyond the point of being easily countable and extend all the way across the road.

The same van from the previous Nomad Drive image, this time from the front and tilted in a bizarre manner with most of its wheels off the ground and the van appearing to be propped up on one of its tyre 'ears'.

Sorting the several thousand photos on my phone from the past 18 months or so. Contrary to what's claimed sometimes about phone photos I do look at mine all the time, because I take lots of pictures of delightful things like this adorable little person I don't remember drawing for my daughter. 🥰

A whiteboard doodle in red marker of a little person with long dishevelled hair, a happy face, and a head slightly too large for her body. Possibly meant to be my toddler given the proportions.

In my very own PEBKAC moment for the day, I realised I had already successfully set up for my phone mounting when attached to my laptop DAYS ago, it was just that Calibre was talking to it every time I plugged it and preventing it from mounting the regular way. 😅

Shortly after I got my first computer my dad kicked the plug out of the wall by mistake and felt so bad he attached it to the wall so it could never happen again. Starting to wonder if these clowns' daddies did that for their computers too and they never worked out how to unscrew the device. 🙃

My kidlet keeps urging me to play the Nomad Drive demo more, which doesn't actually have a whole lot more mysteries to reveal to us after 45+ hours, but I recently discovered you can stick whole stacks of tyres to the sides of the van and I am going to abuse this as far as it can go.

A screenshot from the demo of Nomad Drive depicting a van parked by the side of the road with its back hatch open, engine out and sitting on the road. On either side of the van a stack of tyres protrudes sideways. The overall effect is of a weird face with either very spindly ears or very silly arms.
