locktober is a traditional holiday and important month in the queer cultural calendar. every october, the community comes together and celebrates the virtues of temperance and chastity through rituals of trust and self-control. in a time of waning cultural cohesion we must embrace tradition

Been a while since I posted a project! Here's a nu-disco playlist in the form of an interactive website that maps out 125+ French House style songs from around the millennium. You can play little snippets of everything. Will add some writing disko2000.neocities.org #webdev #website #music #edm

Map of Australia from Gumboots Australia (DOS, 1990). It's a Carmen Sandiego type came where you cavort around the country to learn Australia Facts. I just think it's neat

In 1994 the SNES game Wolverine: Adamantium Rage accidentally invented the concept of the "grime beat" eight years early. The entire hip hop scene could have skipped a decade if someone tried to rap to this. It's that prescient youtu.be/K9K23uzHjus?...

there really is nothing like shoegaze. it's fun to listen to music that sounds like getting punched in the face by an amorphous wall of noise (like at 0:30) youtu.be/Tiqezbc0W8Q?...

i know i talk about morrowind a lot but it's a twenty year old game that has a community (@tamriel-rebuilt.bsky.social) releasing expansion-sized content on par with the original game every year or two and i think that's just a staggering achievement www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/content/pois...

Back into development after a hiatus. Making a rudimentary space trading sim inspired by the Escape Velocity series. It's a lot of fun to create maps for imaginary galaxies #indiegame #gamedev #indiedev

researching and slowly rewriting the article for The Matrix: Path of Neo (2005). i have only just learned if you make it to the end of the game the wachowskis personally appear and tell you the film ending sucks for a video game and suggest you fight a massive mecha agent smith instead

Yes, there's the Dunning Kruger Effect and the Imposter Syndrome, but there needs to be a term like 'nominal competence' where someone (me) can understand something but dare not go deeper for fear of discovering the fool within

It feels like 80s and 90s nostalgia and its fetishism for VHS has never strongly tapped into the period of studio HD, Laserdisc, and aesthetic trends drawing from overuse of early software editing suites like NewTek Video Toaster youtu.be/6hhIudIuKzA?...

Elmo's Preschool: Deluxe (1998) is the first game my parents ever bought for me. I legitimately have not thought about this game in over 25 years until today - what's the first software you ever remember using or playing?

I'm working on a website named Labrysia (labrysia.com) that catalogues games designed around virtual environments. It's inspired by Myst and 2000s skeuomorphic web design, with old book spines from Wikimedia Commons. Plan to use it as a platform for writing about the genre. #indiegames #gamedev

the collapse in trust on social media means nobody follows random people anymore. later generations will never know the joy of staking your entire social life on people you thirst followed in 2015

I never stopped messing around with this idea in three.js and decided to take a different tack. More of an espionage-themed card game called EXPATRIATE. You basically hop around the globe finding spies with your allies and avoiding them finding you. Coming together! #indiegame #gamedev #indiedev

Playing Banquet for Fools. Kind of rules - has a nice Diablo-style isometric design with some wacky worldbuilding and hybrid real-time beat 'em up combat. Sing songs, drink mead, kill things. Enjoying it a lot so far

Playing and drafting the article for Impressions Games' Lords of the Realm II (1996). This was my dad's first strategy game when he got a computer in 1997. It's turn-based and real-time in a way that was slightly unusual. Fun sieges. Medieval soundtrack goes off
