I'm sure you recall a similar situation when neural networks became prevalent in chess engines about a decade ago. The things were playing way better than any human, but there was that other issue: if the n.n. is trained only on existing game data, where are the new ideas going to come from?

Es imposible entender Oña sin la historia de su notorio psiquiátrico. La práctica totalidad de familias del pueblo han tenido a alguien trabajando allí, y todas tienen algún relato, digamos, muy oscuro y siniestro con todo aquello.

Waymo is cops. It's a remote control car data scraper and surveillance system pretending to be a cab. The secondary revenue stream is you paying for a ride. The main source is selling data. And they're dangerous as hell. I'm always amazed how many people are unwilling to see that shit.

It was in 2002, Slackware on a 486DX I had found dumpster-diving. Took me nearly a month to configure X11. Not sure how long to get it to talk to a printer. (That was before modern conveniences like cups. Or hardware detection of any kind.)

Este libro nace directamente de otro, Maddi y las fronteras. Ambos condensan muchas de mis inquietudes, reflexiones y búsquedas de años, si no décadas, durante las cuales me he interesado por las vidas de mujeres anónimas -luchadoras, trabajadoras- que han desaparecido de la historia porque nadie las ha narrado. Marie-Jeanne Etcheverria es una de ellas.

No puedes quedarte aquí eternamente es mi crónica personal de la vida de esta mujer, prima y ahijada de Maddi, que creció junto a ella a los pies del monte Larrún y se unió muy joven a la Resistencia contra la ocupación nazi, lo que la llevó a ser deportada al campo de concentración de Ravensbrück y obligada a hacer trabajos forzosos. A diferencia de Maddi, Marie-Jeanne sobrevivió. Las peripecias en la Resistencia y la deportación apenas duraron cuatro años, pero esos cuatro años dominarían el resto de su existencia.

Este libro es una búsqueda y un viaje. Te invito a viajar conmigo. Explícitamente. Desde las primeras páginas te tiendo la mano y te pido que me acompañes a las geografías de Marie-Jeanne: las de la alegría y también las del horror. Subimos de la mano al monte Larrún pero también bajamos al terror de Ravensbrück; tomamos un café con la nieta de Marie-Jeanne mientras nos cuenta historias de su abuela pero también contemplamos desde la ventana de un tren el mismo paisaje alemán que atravesaron las prisioneras en vagones de ganado. No puedes quedarte aquí eternamente es un viaje geográfico y temporal, de territorios y de memoria, un viaje en el que no estamos solas: nos acompaña la voz de Angélique, nieta de Marie-Jeanne, y las voces de otras supervivientes que, ya fuera oralmente o en conmovedores testimonios escritos, dejaron constancia del horror y de cómo rehicieron, en la medida de lo posible, sus vidas.
