Getting ready for that 10/1 burst of poetry ms competitions and realizing just how tired I am of the poetry contest system after twenty years. As I said to a friend recently, I just cannot compete with the energy of those 25 year old newly minted MFAs anymore. I have to, but it's getting...sad.

Every poet has their Odyssey poem, I told my students, so this one in The Georgia Review is mine. A poem about home while my father fades out. Thanks to the lovely team at Georgia Rev— especially Gerald Maa and CJ Bartunek. Feels good to be in the home journal with this one.

Many thoughts of late on IP and authorship (both Patagonia and Fender and their lawsuits) but AI is an intriguing problem. I'm fascinated by how our students are both obsessed with their idea ownership and also ask ChatGPT how to brush their teeth 🙂
