Reminder that Carney has cut funding for Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Indigenous and Northern Affairs, and Indigenous Services. And he has rolled back climate protections, abandoned emissions targets, and is building more pipelines.
Carney:

"The wildfire situation has escalated significantly over the last three weeks across the country, and particularly in Northwestern Ontario.

Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their communities, not knowing if their homes will survive.

On behalf of Canadians, I want to thank the brave firefighters, first responders, Indigenous and local leaders who are working tirelessly to keep people safe.

Our government is in close contact with provincial, municipal, and Indigenous partners and stands ready to provide any additional support as needed."

Repulsive. Public money paying for fascist propaganda. Encampments are rare; they are not a danger; this government is doing nothing to help the people who live in them or to solve the underlying problems.

BIG news out of Kitchener-Waterloo: the Ontario Superior Court has ruled that homelessness is an analogous ground for discrimination under s.15 of the Charter. This is a BIG step toward recognizing homeless people as an equity-seeking group under the law. Governments take note!

Louise Arbour is Canada's new Governor General. She was top prosecutor at the international court. She brought charges against President Milošević, secured the first conviction for genocide since 1948, prosecuted sexual assault as a crime against humanity. This is a powerful statement.

The President of the United States is openly threatening to commit genocide against 90 million people. Prime Minister Carney: if there was ever a moment to denounce this illegal war, withdraw your support, and call for accountability for war crimes—it’s now.
Screenshot of a post from Donald Trump: A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!

Reminded today of how fleeting even the veneer of immortality is for all of us. Years ago, I stood at the grave of Yeats in County Sligo. An American tourist family was present; Dad, trying to describe the poet. Son, maybe 12: "He died before I was born so I don't care." Horseman pass by, indeed.

The Textile Museum's address is 55 Centre Avenue, Toronto ON M5G 2H5. The argument that Carney cant demand that international law be upheld, not just in the Middle East but everywhere, makes no sense to me. Canada can do this & say both that the Iranian regime should fall & that aggressive war is illegal. It’s in our direct interests to do so.
