Sometimes people go through a liberal education with nothing gained at all but a piece of paper. Who knows if more history or more engineering would have made a difference, but it is true that on average more people are reached through broader exposure of various methods of examining the world.

There's always back and forth on what subjects provide and which are needed for a liberal education. Everyone should be exposed to as much as possible because most of it will not impart anything to most people. It's a matter of hoping something sparks an individual to self enlightenment.

As a former engineering student, I took several history and philosophy classes. It turns out wherever you work with other people there always seems to be politics to parse, investigate, and navigate.

Here's a neat thing! My mom retired after 25+ as a children's librarian at public libraries yesterday. (It was very cool! Hundreds of former Story Hour kids arrived, some as adults!) I let Ed Markey's office know in case they wanted to send a nice email back and they sent this! He's still got it!

Higher Education is not just about training workers, but also about training citizen leaders and good citizenship in part means thinking that the details matter, that getting them right matters, because it impacts some of your fellow citizens. "It only matters if job" is poison to citizenship.

We always have the option of building bike lanes and promoting bike transit in general but Americans hate cyclists like we hate socialists and atheists. Segways, scooters, etc. will also all fall under the same umbrella. We sacrifice everything for the sake of cars.

Even though Congress may be looking great, many state and many many local positions detached from the broader zeitgeist need constant pressure in order to rout the GOP top to bottom. There are plenty of city/county level 'non-partisan' positions that act as reservoirs for future conservative talent.
