Chamber of Commerce front group including pro data center messaging in their anti-renter survey. The conservative vision for Saint Paul isn't more homes -- its tax cuts for AI tech corporations who are going to jack up our utility bills and destroy any progress on curbing climate change.
Survey reads" Do you support a data center in vacant downtown real estate"

This the American Way: Deliberately make transit confusing and difficult to use, then the powers that be can say “see, people don’t take transit.” Minneapolis is playing this exact game with the Nicollet Mall, so it can become a permanent corporate events space tailored to suburban tastes.

Thousands of drivers are facing losing work to autonomous vehicles. Our proposed ordinance would protect their jobs, Robin Wonsley, Jamal Osman, Aurin Chowdhury and Jason Chavez write.

Didn't help that Carter somehow decided a few weeks before the election to try and gut civil service rules which underpin basically all public sector union contracts. A bunch of unions went from neutral to all in for Her overnight for something that was completely avoidable.

Lyft put $10k into All of Mpls in 2025 but that's about it for tech companies. The big spenders here are local developers and landlords. I think basically Minneapolis isn't relevant on the national regulatory political landscape to matter to tech companies.

This is such depressing news. Canopy Roots' BCR was one of the few big innovations in public safety after 2020 that Minneapolis continued. I am skeptical that bringing in a new org from AZ is the right move.

I mean it's pretty clear that the people who already downtown or riding buses on Nicollet aren't the people Mayor Frey wants downtown. Downtown for Frey is meant to be a sanitized playground for rich white people visiting from the suburbs.

And without regulation who's to say that some future Waymo CEO won't crank up the dial on dangerous driving to appease their private equity funders demanding faster speeds. Once they destroy their competitors like Uber and Lyft did to taxis we're at the mercy of a monopoly all over again.

We didn't fight to protect our immigrant neighbors from ICE this winter just to let tech billionaires destroy 10,000 heavily immigrant jobs while making traffic safety even worse. It's government's responsibility to regulate automation so everyone can afford to make rent and put food on the table.

The "centrist" think tank Third Way is looking to pay someone between $140,000 and $150,000 to spend their days trying to dig up dirt on DSA members. They're trying to sell this gig as "anti-extremism" work, which I find completely disgusting.
from job listing:

As the Director of Anti-Extremism, a typical day might include…

Assembling and updating a database of the DSA’s most extreme ideas and statements and a repository of voting records, affiliations, and issue positions to make available to allies and partners;
Leading public opinion research to identify and test the contrasts that move base voters away from these extreme candidates;
Overseeing the development of memos, talking points, rapid response materials, and other products that make the case against these extreme forces in American politics;
Promoting and marketing our research and materials to ensure they reach decisionmakers quickly, repeatedly, and at scale through a coordinated distribution infrastructure;
Recruiting and arming a group of young, diverse spokespeople to fight the DSA from a center-left perspective and assembling a broad coalition of organizational partners to make the case against extremism;
Running an earned media program to create a drumbeat of our message in op-eds, television appearances, podcasts, and traditional and digital media engagement.
