From the Star Tribune Hotdish today: "Through July, Senate Democrats spent far more defending Latz in a safely Democratic district than in any November battleground." $40k could have gone a long way in a swing seat to hold the DFL Senate majority.

According to campaign finance reports released this week, the Senate DFL Caucus has spent more than $40,000 backing Latz. That spending has frustrated some activists in Latz's district, who argue party leaders shouldn't spend tens of thousands of dollars trying to influence the outcome of a safe-seat primary after local delegates failed to unite behind a candidate.

It’s by far the largest investment any legislative caucus has made in a primary this cycle and a notable expenditure for a party that has otherwise reserved its spending for competitive seats in the general election. Through July, Senate Democrats spent far more defending Latz in a safely Democratic district than in any November battleground.

DFL Senate Caucus blew $41k on protecting Ron Latz in a safe DFL seat -- 32% of their total candidate spending so far this year -- more than triple what they spent in actual swing districts to protect candidates Grant Hauschild and Eric Putnam that we actually need to maintain a majority.

All of Mpls major donor Julie Wickland and Council Member Palmisano had an email exchange with Corey Vest earlier this year about him running in Ward 7. Can't speak to the serious of Vest's campaign given the flopped Tim Peterson campaign that he managed but he's certainly a Frey aligned candidate.
