“There is a huge impact of morning light in fighting off what is called seasonal affective disorder or winter depression,” Wyatt said. “So that is one of the risks of having this new Sunshine Protection Act go through.” 👉 Tell your senators!
Chicago’s Very Own WGN9

“The favorable thing is if we have sunlight in the morning prior to going to work or prior to going to school and that would be gone if we went to daylight saving time year-round,” Wyatt said.

His vote – and the vote of his fellow sleep experts – is for a permanent switch to standard time. But the proposed legislation, on its way to the U.S. Senate, would put the country in permanent daylight saving time.

Permanent DST would combine low temperatures with dark mornings, when people are waking up, commuting, beginning outdoor work, and sending children to school.
Jepsen Mindset and Meditation Monk

Why Year-Round Daylight Saving Time Is a Bad Idea

By Joseph Jepsen

September 26, 2023
Updated August 2, 2026

Many people support year-round daylight saving time because they imagine brighter, summer-like evenings throughout the year without the inconvenience of changing the clocks.

Permanent DST would move the winter sunset one hour later on the clock, but it would not create a single additional minute of daylight. Winter days would remain short, the sun would remain lower in the sky, and the available evening light would still be much weaker than the long, bright summer evenings supporters often picture.

The price of that later sunset would be an hour-later sunrise.

Winter mornings are already colder and more difficult for many people. Permanent DST would combine those low temperatures with extended darkness, creating dark, cold mornings when people are waking up, commuting, beginning outdoor work, and sending children to school.

If the sun…
