If you saw this happening in another country, you’d wonder why the citizens had not risen up. We inexplicably expect it when we sanction citizens of other countries because we don’t like their leaders’ policies. But somehow it never happens here no matter how much they lie, kill and steal.

It’s not just bribery. And the threats are not only against the targets, but extend to their family and loved ones.

I just looked at my drafts and though some are stupid, they’re not all bad.

I’ve done some AI consulting. Companies I’ve worked with are suddenly concerned with safety issues, as though they are just discovering them now. It’s really the threat of regulation that terrifies them. “New EU rules require chatbots to disclose their machines and mark AI-generated content.”

I only noticed this late in the 2010s, but then in the 2020s I saw a similar decline in bird populations. Those seem to have recovered, though I still do not see insects that used to be quite common. (This goes for certain plants as well.) (Observations from the Sonoran Desert.)

When I was a kid and we wanted hamburgers, the family would just buy a piece of chuck and use this little contraption that bolted onto the counter, little more than a big screw and extruder powered by hand. I think it might be time to go back to that technique if mystery meat is to be avoided.

I watched George Roy Hill’s version of Vonnegut’s “Slaughterhouse-Five” for the first time in a half-century. It was better than I remembered. Vonnegut seemed to have liked it. The film seems forgotten though it comes between “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “The Sting.”

Kennedy Center management has not yet had the debris cleaned up from last week's minor roof leak. It's been sitting there on the rug for nearly a week now. (The snapshot of the mess was taken this morning.) The Grand Foyer is still closed to visitors.
