I just caught my first 30-footer electric RapidRide F from TIBS to Renton. If King County Metro is using smaller coaches on the F, does that mean headways will eventually decrease, or is this just further enshittification of the F line?

I was up in Vancouver, BC, over the weekend for the first time in three years, and I reafirm my belief that Sound Transit really screwed the pooch by using light rail for Link instead of using a driverless system like what SkyTrain uses.

Coming home from a community meeting in N Aurora tonight my two-bus trip home took 77min. It’s a 14min drive. That’s the hidden time tax riders pay every day. I never take for granted how far we’ve come in delivering a fair transportation system in Seattle, and yet we have so much further to go.

@sound-transit.bsky.social I don't know if you are aware, or if it's under your jurisdiction, but this pedestrian walk sign at Rainier Beach Station is missing. If the sign at the SE corner of the intersection didn't speak, I wouldn't have known when I could safely cross to the station.

On this #Juneteenth holiday, I share some (unfortunate) family history. My paternal great (x3) grandfather, Beryl "Berry" Jennings Nix, in an 1860 census conducted in Panola County, Texas, is recorded to have owned a slave.
A scan of a slave census document from 1860. A name, Berry Nix, is highlighted, showing that he owned one slave at the time the census was taken.

Trump and Hegseth are asking for a record $1.5 trillion defense budget. Roughly half of defense spending goes to private contractors that routinely price-gouge the government. Meanwhile, the Pentagon has failed EIGHT straight audits. The military industrial complex is cheering right now.

I had a two day, two night work retreat in downtown Tacoma (Wednesday afternoon to Friday afternoon), and I treated it like a mini vacation by taking the Sounder from Tukwila to Tacoma Dome. The 40-or-so minute trip on the train was one of the best parts of the whole thing.

Perhaps anecdotal, but with the amount of people I see catching the 101 to Downtown Seattle at Renton Transit Center on Sunday mornings, you would think King County Metro would have better than hourly headways from start of service to 9 AM.

As we hurtle into an energy crisis, remember that North America could have chosen to be more resilient fifty years ago, in the first oil crisis. That is what the Dutch and the Danish did. We tripled down on fossil fuels. This is an example of "design debt" and the balloon payment is due.

IMO the more interesting takeaway is that 44% of Americans prefer to live within walking distance of schools and stores. Safe to assume that most of them currently don’t. The US forces car-dominated sprawl on millions of people who don’t want it.

The FCC is waiving a rule that bars a single company from owning TV stations reaching more than 39% of U.S. households. Nexstar and Tegna combined would cover ~60%. Reminder that Nexstar's CEO has praised Trump and quickly pulled Jimmy Kimmel off its stations last fall. See how this works?

I understand that the F Line is the red-headed stepchild of the RapidRide system, but King County Metro running the new 40 foot electric buses on the route just feels like Metro is intentionally watering down the route at this point.
