I do think this should put some of the hand-wringing over the uniquely sinful American electorate, uniquely feckless institutions, etc in perspective. The truth is that there is a large trans-national constituency of people who actively want this. They aren’t deceived. They want this.

Throwing billions in public money behind a pipeline at a time of climate breakdown – while sweeping aside environmental protections, meaningful Indigenous consultation and workers’ right to strike – is absolutely not in the national interest.

POV it's Canadian Thanksgiving 2026
a two-panel comic by me

1. a guy who might be your uncle or cousin at a counter full of food at thanksgiving asks "So... what happened to your Blue Jays, eh?"

2. you start replying "well I guess the story has to start with the injuries but also you've got guys like" and he cuts you off to say SEE FOR ME I THINK THE BIG THING IS VLADDY DOESN'T CARE. note that I've written this text in a lovely way with my mouse in photoshop, which is much more time consuming than just using the text tool, not that anyone cares!

As we sit on the precipice of another election in BC—particularly considering the climate with the Democrats in the U.S. right now—it's worth pushing progressive politicians to vocally affirm their support of LGBTQ2S+ folks (and particularly trans people), rather than accepting silence as support.

I think it's ill-advised and anti-democratic to introduce an omnibus bill, cite a crisis, and rush major changes to labour and environmental law. It's going to provoke aggressive resistance and risks, ironically, slowing down the projects the government is so keen on. It's going to be a huge mess.
