Why L.A. developers aren't building more apartments, despite epic housing shortage
L.A. needs more multifamily housing, but developers say it doesn't make sense to build apartments in the current market.

This is the six-lane car sewer where the crash took place. The State Senate just killed a bill that would crack down on drunk drivers and the Mayor of LA got a road diet like by calling in a favor with the legislature. California is a pro vehicular homicide state. We're like chud states with guns.

California elected officials who actually set policy and are universally Democrats think it's awesome when people are killed by cars. If they could push a button that killed 1,000 extra people per year but shaved 10 mins off their constituents' average daily commute, they'd push it in a heartbeat.

Newsom approved a bill to make it easier to build more homes. Why do LA leaders oppose it?
It may boil down to power and money.

Really outrageous to hear the segregationists in the Sherman Oaks Homeowners' Association talk about single family zoning given the utter disaster Los Angeles housing policy has been. They say the state has used a "sledgehammer" on LA neighborhoods, they should've used an atom bomb.

Street homelessness in LA rose 8%. This problem isn't unsolvable. It's mismanaged. Another approach is possible, and the results in my council district prove it. Street homelessness is down 49% in CD4, and I will bring the same approach citywide as your next mayor.

To prove racial gerrymandering, a plaintiff has to draw race-blind districts that are just as favorable to Republicans. But that's impossible to do because Republicans uniformly select racists as their candidates and Black voters won't vote for racists. So racial gerrymandering is always allowed.
Callais updated these standards. As relevant here, weheld that for plaintiffs to satisfy the first Gingles precondi-tion, a plaintiff ’s alternative map “must meet all the State’slegitimate districting objectives” “just as well” as the State’sown map. 608 U. S., at ___ (slip op., at 29) (emphasisadded). Those legitimate districting objectives, we held, in-clude “the State’s specified political goals” and “any othergoal not prohibited by the Constitution.” Ibid. A plaintiffalso “cannot use race as a districting criterion” in preparingthe alternative map.

I find myself thinking about historian Robert Paxton’s 2004 definition of fascism far too often than I’d like these days. Note that these sentences were written back when Donald Trump was a NYC playboy libertine who donated to Democrats.
Fascism may be defined as a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation, or victim-hood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy, and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legalrestraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion.
