The first chart shows Black representation in the House, broken down between Confederacy vs. the rest of the US. The second does the same thing, but only for the Confederate states, compared to the % Black population of those states. The Roberts Court is taking us back to the pre-1992 status quo.
Black representation in the US House, Confederacy vs. rest of the US: chart showing a brief surge during Reconstruction, then almost none during Jim Crow, then a big surge after the VRA (mostly in the rest of the US, not the Confederacy), then a big surge all over the US, especially the Confederacy. Only in the last 10 years has Black representation in the House grown to about the same proportion as the US black population. Chart: Black representation in the House vs. Black population in the Confederate states. Only starting in 1992 did it start coming close to proportional.

New bigoted anti-trans snitch line just dropped — this one targeted at doctors (and parents?) and designed to further erase trans existence. Ghouls is too charitable a word to describe the architects of this or any "whistleblowers."
Screenshot of a US Health & Human Services (HHS.gov) website announcing a "whistleblower" tip line for "complaints regarding the chemical and surgical mutilation of children". In other words, a bigoted anti-trans snitch line targeted at doctors, parents, and trans kids designed to make accessing health care (aka trans healthcare aka gender affirming care aka BASIC FUCKING SERVICES) more difficult for some of the most vulnerable among us. It makes me want to cry and beat the shit out of some Nazis at the same time. "Can't waste a day when the night brings a hearse / So make a move and plead the fifth 'cause ya can't plead the first"

narrator: they did based on mahmoud khalil’s status and case, the team at emily has modified the graphic to reflect estimated peril in cases of wrongthink while brown.
Modified NYT infographic from April 9, 2025. It is a grid showing the rights of different groups - citizens, green-card holders, visa holders, and those who are undocumented.

The top line says "Could immigration authorities detain and seek to deport you, even if you have not been convicted of a crime?" The middle line says "Could you be arrested and deported if you have been convicted of a crime?"

The bottom line says "Could you be arrested and deported based on your speech or for engaging in protest?" It reports the answer as no for all groups except undocumented immigrants. There is a red circle around the "no" for all but US Citizens, as partial recognition that this is what the Trump administration is actually doing/attempting

THE GRAPHIC HAS BEEN MODIFIED WITH BIG RED CIRCLES AND YES MARKERS WHERE MAHMOUD KAHLIL falls: Yes, you can have a green card and be detained and authorities may seek to deport even if there is no crime; yes they may deport just for speech.
