Part of what brought me back into reading frequently was novellas. And I still read them as a palette cleanser between more difficult works. I have many local book sellers and their thoughtful curations to thank for that.

the internet got worse, and I've been a writer for most of my life, and I thought, if this is my job, I should be reading more. to be honest I was intimidated by the great works as well, and it prevented my curiosity. but once you're actually curious about something, everything becomes easy

Dad went and got a Christmas tree but once we started putting the ornaments on, it rustled. We learned there was a little man clutching the tree, who would answer no questions nor tolerate being moved. It was fun for a couple days but then dad got him with the bug zapper and swept him outside
