Clive is of course correct, and the key thing here is not that Watson has succumbed to temptation: he was a bullshit artist and a crook ten years ago too. This is just what the system looks like when there is no longer any need to pretend these people work for you, not their future employers.

Tom Watson’s move to Palantir is the latest sign of how far the rot has spread in UK politics | Clive Lewis
When a former Labour deputy leader joins a firm built on surveillance and military targeting, it deepens public cynicism – and democracy depends on trust, says Labour MP Clive Lewis

What I reckon.
Headline: BBC removes 11 Mitchell and Webb comedy sketches from iPlayer. There will no doubt be all kinds of attempts to spin this into a culture war, isn't that boring?
I couldn't be prouder to have worked on this show. I think we made something really good. But the first series was twenty years ago and even the best, and best-intentioned, sketches look different through a two decade lens. That's as it should be: sketch comedy is of its time and lasting is a bonus. I think it's pretty damn cool that our show has lasted long enough for a little anniversary lap of honour on iPlayer.
And if you are going to pretend that this is all about censorship and wokeflakes and whatever the Telegraph will front up a couple of hundred quid for, then the DVDs are still available in pretty much any CEX I have ever been in. So everybody wins!

Just a reminder as the new academic year kicks off - the UK government has deliberately, ruthlessly, throttled the recruitment of international students, solely to pander to racists, and the resultant 25%+ fall in numbers can and will only accelerate some universities into bankruptcy.

They all do this: they leave the BBC talking about how glad they are to be free of the corporation’s stifling restrictions, and then it turns out all of them have the same boring-as-fuck, driving gloves Tory opinions about everything.

The media could have not platformed Nigel Farage and discredited him 15 years ago. Instead Farage got them what they wanted - Cameron agreeing to a Brexit referendum, Labour and the Tories dragged to the right. Now they want two party politics back with the Tories in power. He’s served his purpose.

That feels absolutely right to me, and I’ll go you one further: increasingly, and for the last five years in particular, legacy media no longer seems to *understand* the world. They can’t explain what’s happening to themselves and each other, never mind to the public.

I think what's happened here is the press immediately recognised the obvious truth of what Hannah Spencer said but their idea of fairness/compromise is to still go in two footed on her, a vile 'leftie', and then circle back and pick up her points a few months on without acknowledging they were hers

A fun question: what percentage of Labour voters will back relentless crackdowns, facilitating war crimes and benefit cuts to buy bullshit AI and missiles, so long as the leader doesn’t lean into video cameras and say “Also, our supporters are scum”! Let’s find out!
most interesting thing here is that green/labour shift, indicates that the green surge was in part otherwise loyal labour voters who personally hated starmer

This would be good IMO: it would force lots of prominent, important people to face the consequences of their horrible choices, and it’d compel them to explain themselves. Rather than what they do instead, which is shout “Actually that was just practice, we’re back to 0-0 now”.

The trouble with making it mandatory to hold an election if a ruling party wants to change its PM, is unpopular PMs would simply stay in office longer rather than risk defeat. So we'd have had Blair til 2010; Cameron til 2020;
May til 2022; Johnson til 2024; Starmer til 2029.

The Starmer government has done wicked things. We must not let it go into the night pretending that its primary fault was being boring. It chose to persecute minorities in pursuit of the votes of people it thought would like that. The Starmer premiership was utterly morally bankrupt.

This gets doubly bad, if basically the last ten years of Labour politics was you and your mates relentlessly smashing fuck out of Sir Keir’s predecessor and his supporters, just so you could then cheer Starmer on to one of the all-time horrific clown performances in office. That looks really bad!
