Proud to share my transportation and infrastructure platform. New York moves nearly half of all American transit riders but receives just 15% of federal transit funding. That's a ripoff. It’s long past time we ended this bad deal. (1/3)
Brad’s plan would dramatically increase federal funding to public transit, prioritize repairs to aging infrastructure like the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and build more sustainable communities. Specifically, as a Congressman, Brad would fight to give public transit an equal share of federal transportation dollars, ending a Reagan-era formula that sends 80% of Congressional funds to highways and just 20% to transit.Brad’s plan would also lift the federal restriction that bars transit dollars from being spent on operations, and give communities a direct voice in major infrastructure decisions through a Participatory Infrastructure Planning provision modeled on New York's participatory budgeting. The plan also establishes a 'fix it first' scoring system that prioritizes funding for repairs to existing infrastructure before building new highways. The goal is to reverse decades of federal dollars flowing to Sunbelt sprawl while bridges and roads in cities like New York have been left to degrade. Brad would also cosponsor Rep. Hank Johnson's Stronger Communities Through Better Transit Act, which would invest $20 billion annually in transit operations.Brad organized early support for congestion pricing in 2007, championed it for the next two decades, and, in 2024, convened the coalition of advocates and attorneys whose lawsuits helped get the program implemented before the Trump administration could block it.

In the City Council, Brad fought for and won CitiBike expansion, bus rapid transit improvements, subway elevators, and open streets. As a champion of Vision Zero, he spearheaded the Reckless Driver Accountability Act, the city’s enforcement tool to hold dangerous drivers accountable.
