WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

Today’s earrings. These Saturn shaped beads were in my grab bag from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social. I wouldn’t have thought to buy these on my own, but they were so easy to design with & I love them! I’m not feeling inspired by my current beads, need to find something that sparks the way these did.
Silvertone & bead earrings dangling from hooks. On each earring, AB crystals and flat silver spacer beads surround brown/white/teal beads shaped like the planet Saturn & its rings. Below that combination dangles a rippled silver disk reclaimed from a bag of random vintage metal bits.

OK, these may be too long for me @ 2.5”, but since the point of buying a @peculiarityshop.bsky.social grab bag o’ beads is to experiment... I loved this bead as soon as I saw it in the bag! Might not be showcased best in this design, though? I do like the overall look.
Long dangle earrings made from a single, round, faceted black bead with a white stripe hang from silver ball posts. Below the bead is a long, narrow, shiny, silvertoned triangle of metal, salvaged from some vintage jewelry years ago & buried in my stash for most of that time until I dug it out last night. The earrings are very flashy. I suspect they’d make good fishing lures. Same earrings, pictured from the side so you can see the rippled bends in the triangles. Still very flashy.

@gateau.bsky.social Today’s creation, earrings to match the weirdly dyed rutilated quartz pendant I thrifted a few months back. Still do not get dyeing that stone! But. I’m in love with these earrings, my favorite so far. Shell disks & silver from my old stash, glass & pearls from the grab bag.
Hanging from a silver chain is a denim blue dyed rutilated quartz pendant, bezel mounted in sterling with a pearl accent above. Next to the pendant is a newly crafted pair of dangle earrings, featuring denim blue glass beads with pearls & blue/grey/gold shell disks.

Grief stole all my creativity 8 years ago. Nothing I tried helped. Today, I finally crafted 3 pair of earrings from a grab bag of beads that arrived last week via @peculiarityshop.bsky.social. It probably sounds silly, but it’s such a big thing for me to have this back, & I’m so grateful!
Three pair of earrings crafted from a mix of stone, shell, glass, ceramic, and metal beads. One pair is dark blue with shades of purple, one is a watermelon reddish pink with black, and one is chunky pieces of white mother of pearl with ivory & mossy green. All are accented with silver.

Still squeeing two hours later over my latest box from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social. Two wonderful pairs of Dragon’s Den earrings from Lauren (wearing the onyx & ceramic pair right now!), a lovely pair of moissanite studs, and a fantastic bag of loose beads that I’ve already started playing with!
A pair of clear white moissanite stud earrings. Way more sparkly in real life than in the pic.Two pairs of dangling earrings from Lauren’s Dragon’s Den collection. Left pair is a bronzy crystal with large round onyx bead and a square ceramic bead, while on the right, a small black crystal is paired with a round labradorite & a silvertone metal charm.Loose beads in a white bowl. Many colors and shapes!Loose beads paired up and spread out so they can be seen individually. Beads are made of ceramic, stone, shell, and crystal, in all colors of the rainbow.

@gateau.bsky.social Here are the earrings, clips & mounts purchased separately. Clips are huge, they cover most of the tragus when worn. Fabulous to look at, but not very comfortable to wear even with fresh foam pads. Cast metal of some sort, pretty textured. Nothing similar on PicDetective.
Heavy, vintage silver or silvertone earring clips, leaf shaped with a fern pattern and several small clear rhinestones. Below each clip is a glue in mount for a gemstone, with scrollwork surrounding the edge of each stone. Two 18x14mm reddish pink vintage dragon’s breath glass are mounted in the findings so they dangle below the clips.

Why is it so hard to capture this extremely flashy opal on camera?! (Skill issue, I know. Grrr…!) I do like how the fire means it holds its own with the much larger malachite. Ethiopian opal ring: @peculiarityshop.bsky.social Malachite ring: ebay
Two rings on a white woman’s hand. A small round opal flashes mostly green in this natural morning light pic, while a large oval malachite tries to dominate the pic.Same rings under warm indoor light. The opal is frankly showing off now, with more green and reddish pink fire. The malachite’s colors are so dark at this angle, it looks like it’s sulking.

A silver cuff bracelet on a white wrist. The bracelet is made of three strands of heavy wire soldered together, with a single wave or twist in the center. The same bracelet on the same hand. A moonstone & marcasite ring is on the middle finger, the ring also has a curved design overlaying the main stone.

I ended up having more extended thoughts on Dolly Parton over on Facebook and I thought I would share them here as well.
When I was much younger, I knew her mostly as a caricature and the object of jokes, because young men are kind of stupid that way and I was no exception, and because she willingly played along with the joke, in part because she knew it would happen anyway, and this way she got to shape some of how that would play out for her, and use it for her own ends. It took me a while to realize how canny that was.

When I got older, I learned that underneath the caricature was a formidable songwriting and business mind. I had an inkling of what a rare combination that was in any person, but how even more rare it was for someone who was who she was, in the field and environment she worked in. Hidden in all those sparkles was a spine of steel.

When I got older than that I learned that in addition to a brilliant mind was a heart of kindness, which directed so much of the good fortune she amassed to herself right back out the door through philanthropic work, helping those in her communities, state and country, and which allowed to see the worth and dignity in those whom so many others treated (and still do treat) with contempt.

She was always all the things she was. What changed was my ability to see and understand who she was. I'm glad I was eventually smart enough to see it all.

What Dolly taught us is that it is in fact possible to be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams of avarice but still be a fundamentally good person with a strong moral compass, and the only reason more rich people aren't like that is because they don't want to be.

@gateau.bsky.social The odd onyx & mystery green stone earrings are here, and I think I’m right...they typoed “oval” 2x instead of “opal” in the listing! Not great flash for earrings, both would have been better set into rings, I think. The bad news is, they’re very heavy at over 9g each.

@gateau.bsky.social This weekend’s cleanup jobs. Of the stones, I do suspect the flower mandala to be glass, but that blue dangle fluoresces just enough to make me think possible topaz. The purse took SO much cleaning, and there’s still a little more to do. But not a dent in sight!
5 sterling pendants. Clockwise from upper left, a simple mount with a black stone (onyx or obsidian?). A teardrop shaped mottled green and black serpentinite. A fancy teardrop with lots of small clear stones surrounding a blue stone dangle (possibly topaz). Flower mandala shape with many colored clear stones, probably glass. And a very cool oval of blue & white floral porcelain in an interesting angled silver mount. An embossed silver or silverplate purse with a long, brailed silver strap coiled in front of it.
