Across the US, workers are souring on AI. The tech industry has insisted that AI would make workers’ lives easier and more productive, that the more people understood and used AI, the more they would like it. Something closer to the opposite has happened.

Why office workers are turning against AI
Whether or not you like AI at work ultimately boils down to a question of power.

NPR has a 'Word of the Week' series, and this week it's LUDDITE I spoke with Emma Bowman about who they really were and about the new luddites organizing against big tech + AI A fun one and, since it's airing on All Things Considered, maybe the biggest-audience luddite rehabilitation effort yet

Get with the times — here's what a 'Luddite' means today
It's often a derogatory term used to describe digital dinosaurs and technophobes. That wasn't always the case. NPR's Word of the Week looks back at the not so backwards-looking Luddites.

May 26. National Sorry Day. As a nation we need to always acknowledge and be part of the healing process for the Stolen Generations and communities. The forced removal of children from their families is one of Australia’s great shames. If ever there was a need for “social cohesion” this is it. 🖤💛❤️

Capital & landed interests in Australia have, since invasion, consistently rejected white settler labour as too entitled/organised, while insisting on stringent border policies to assuage fears of racial contagion, dilution, and invasion. What these interests want are, ultimately, grateful slaves.

#BREAKING: The Commonwealth Ombudsman has published their investigation into the Targeted Compliance Framework & Mutual Obligations system Their findings on the Department's administration of many parts of the system are incredibly damning 👇
Fairness in the Targeted Compliance Framework: when decisions are made beyond your control

An investigation into the remediation of income support cancellations and oversight of decisions made by emmployment service providers affecting job seekers in the Targeted Compliance Framework DEWR’s approach to remediating the unlawful cancellation decisions
is not fair or reasonable.
• Providers give insufficient information to Services Australia to conduct
capability assessments and mutual obligation failure investigations
of job seekers.
• Services Australia do not provide sufficient written explanation of
penalty decisions to job seekers.
• DEWR and Services Australia’s information for job seekers on how to
seek a review or make a complaint lacks transparency, clarity and
accessibility.
• A high rate of provider decisions are overturned.
Fairness in the TCF: when decisions are made beyond your control Page 7 of 89
• Automatic suspensions in the Penalty Zone undermine a job seeker’s
ability to challenge penalties.
• DEWR’s assessment of provider performance lacks transparency.
• DEWR should continue to improve its oversight of providers, utilising
their complaints mechanism.
• Compliance activities against providers do not appear to align to the
high number of overturned rates of provider decisions.

One of the reasons why people often prefer debating ("dining across the divide") with the far right than the left is that the former makes them feel good about themselves by comparison Debates with/amongst the left bring up uncomfortable reflections about our participation in systems of oppression
