Oh good grief. I read the @time.com article earlier, and that was bad enough, but check out the transcript of the whole interview. It's like a distracted, mendacious dementia patient with ADHD. Unbelievable that this man is in charge of our country. time.com/article/2026...

Since Braverman does not identify as English, its strange for her to insist that she could define for others the rules of an in group that she does not believe she can ever be a member of *and* to believe her intuition should trump a broad sustained consemsus amomg those who do identify as English!

For anyone needing a diversion from all the 'other stuff' here's a wee glimpse of the lives of the hill farmers working their sheep up above Loch Ness late yesterday afternoon. Scottish Highlands.

PLEASE ask me for my article! It's always a thrill to know that someone wants to read it, and I hate that knowledge is gatekept like this. Not only do we not get paid if you pay the fee, but we have to pay the journal thousands of dollars for the "privilege" of making it open-access (not paywalled)

I'll repost this. The triple lock is being weaponised, using it as an issue to divide the generations. If it's dropped, the real losers will be the future pensioners. For a currency issuing government keeping any cohort in poverty is is a political choice.

We have one of the lowest state pension provisions in Europe, and no, private pensions don't bridge the gap for most of us. You'll be old one day, use your f**king brains, you're being manipulated.

Had to photograph a Cairngorms hill farmer for SNH a few decades ago. He did NOT want his picture taken: "Ye can photograph the farm but no me". I persisted, but no. Then over a cuppa said I looked familiar, asked if I played shinty, I said yes, for Fort William. "Were you a wing centre?" Yes.

Happens in shinty too though, but I suspect a bit more good-natured!

John MacPherson @johnmacpherson.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I think the thing about shinty is that its a relatively small community, and particularly in the Strathspey tussle many on each team are well-known or even related to their opponents and w/many extended family there as well as their kids, there's a lot of self-policing going on.

Yes, really valuable in this digital age to actually get out in a crowd and enjoy the experience. Overheard from the two wee lads with the flags: "Mam why do they all fight on the pitch but then all laugh together in the pub after?" Mam: "Just the way it is son!" Lovely!

The Mossfield ground is a really good one though because the crowd gather on the hill where you can fantastic views down onto the action (and good image opportunities) but the crowd action there is a real treat too.

Thanks Rob, it's really quite special - the family atmosphere is really noticeable, and the other aspect I could have explored at great length was the dog presence! So many (working) dogs there from the Strath, but lots of house dogs as well!

But Kingussie got it, 2:1 in extra time. These wee lads nervously watched their dad playing for Kingussie and when they won the pair of them went wild! Great shinty from both teams and cracking entertainment. If you've not been to a shinty match, make a point of going! 4/4

Best thing about shinty is it's a family affair & particularly so at cup finals. The wee kids were having a great time, running about like daft things and cheering on their respective teams (Kingussie in red/blue, Newtonmore blue/white) or even both sides at once! 3/4

Great action, Lot of shirt pulling and tripping (normal) but I've never seen so many lads upside down in the air, at times it was like ju jitsu! (and I played shinty for 20 years so I have a good understanding of the game!) Saw a few ex-players I recognised, all a lot older now, just like me! 2/4

My son and I went to the Camanachd Cup Final in Oban on Saturday, Kingussie V Newtonmore. A grand day out, and we managed to escape most of the rain too which was a bonus! I took a tiny compact camera & made the most of its ease of use & unobtrusiveness as we wandered about. 1/4
