Great discussion by @mrao.bsky.social on the how dev econ research is subsequently used by policymakers. She shows the importance of timely evaluations (get your research out there!), but also that constancy of political power may help link evidence -> policy. youtube.com/watch?v=FNzZ...

"Low skilled workers" has always been a frustration. Jugglers are obviously very skilled, but it's not a particular renumerative career. Whether a career path makes a lot of money or not is historically contingent. Being good at math doesn't necessarily help you much in medieval times.

It's quite striking that UK markups haven't moved much since the GFC. Is this about competition policy, technology adoption, business dynamism, regional variation across firms, or something else? Our report isn't definitive, but suggests lots of interesting paths to explore.

The ONS has today released results from two new data collection efforts on public-sector productivity: a public-sector version of the existing Management and Expectations Survey and a public-sector time use survey. Overall, management practices look similar in the public and private sectors. 1/
