Valmyndighetens slutliga räkning i regionvalet anger upp till 172 procents valdeltagande i fyra valdistrikt i Norrtälje. Rösterna ser ut att ha räknats dubbelt. Sverigedemokraterna gynnas mest, V missgynnas mest. Felet hjälper en sverigedemokrat att nå personröstspärren. valkoll.com/norrtalje/

15 years ago today a white supremacist — opposed to “multiculturalism” and feminism — killed 77 in Norway. When the language of racism and misogyny are normalised as “just words” and “free speech” we wallow in historical ignorance. The line between language and violence is straight and unbroken.

Incredible chart from @propublica.org. If you don’t follow enviro stuff closely, your instinct might be that the hold-your-nose solution (carbon capture from fossil fuels) would be the “pragmatic” one versus covering Earth in solar panels, which seems utopian. In fact it’s the opposite

A lesson that we should have learnt, outbreaks can become very large, very quickly and early control is so important to avoid that. Each day of delay in international support going to local teams has massive consequences down the line. Now is the time act.
Figure 1 of the paper showing case growth over time and predictions up to day 160. Curves rising steeply, illustrating exponential growth of outbreak.

Based on the guidelines we issued yesterday, please obtain prior approval for the collaborations you began years ago.
NIH: Does work outside of the U.S. require prior approval?
Foreign components are defined as a significant scientific element or segment of a project outside of the United States.

Significant work performed by a researcher in a foreign location qualifies as a foreign component, whether or not NIH funds are expended.

All foreign components must receive NIH prior approval.

Other examples include, but are not limited to:

the involvement of human subjects or animals at a foreign site,
extensive foreign travel by recipient project staff for the purpose of data collection, surveying, sampling, and similar activities,
collaborations with investigators at a foreign site anticipated to result in co-authorship,
Note, that while not all co-authorship situations represent a true collaboration, the NIH indicates that all cases of foreign co-authorship should be reported to the NIH funding Institute or Center as soon as recipients are aware of it. Review more information and details on NIH International Co-Authors and NIH: NOT OD-26-084
use of facilities or instrumentation at a foreign site; or
receipt of financial support or resources from a foreign entity.
All foreign components must receive NIH prior approval. If a PI is unsure if foreign activity may qualify as a foreign component, err on the side of seeking prior approval.

NOTE: The NIH has not yet provided guidance for how to request the addition of more international project components to an existing awarded PF5 project. NOT OD-25-155.

International activities may also require the UW’s International Activities Assessment.

A society that runs on this stack doesn't stop holding elections, or debating, or running investigations. The forms stay, but what goes is their capacity to constrain power. The arc bends toward simulation, carried out in the language of defending democracy.
A diagram showing the VDA framework and the Arc of Democracy. At the top, three icons label the essential elements of democracy: Verification (tick), Deliberation (speech bubble), and Accountability (magnifying glass). Arrows descend from each through three horizontal bands representing the arc: Substantial (truth tested, voices included, power constrained), Performative (forms remain but substance is weak, rituals without consequence), and Simulated (appearance maintained but functions inverted: propaganda as verification, polarisation as deliberation, scapegoating as accountability). A vertical arrow on the left marks the arc's direction: improvements, decline, collapse. A column on the right maps counterpublics onto the same three states: functional counterpublics act in a substantial way, hollow counterpublics in a performative way, disordered counterpublics in a simulated way. The bands shift from grey through pink to red as democracy moves toward simulation.

There are ample professional disincentives to spilling the inner workings of a court; even misconduct is rarely disclosed. Only reason to demand NDAs is if the Justices are engaging in conduct so egregious that the legal profession would recognize the need for court employees to disclose it.

me: oh god it can't get worse can it roblox ceo: we are innovating ways to get kids addicted to gambling
Roose: Would you ever put a prediction market inside Roblox — like, let kids bet with their Robux and say, “I bet he’s gonna steal a Tung Tung Tung Sahur?”

Newton: Or, “I bet he’s not gonna Dress to Impress.”

Baszucki: We would — I think we would have to do that — once again, I’ll share some of the complexity. Every single country in the world has different legislation around loot boxes and kid gambling. And so we would have to be — it sounds very fun and obvious. Like, I love that —

Roose: Oh, to be clear, I think this is a horrible idea.

Newton and Baszucki: (laughter)

Roose: I was just interested if you were thinking about it.

Baszucki: Well, I actually think it’s a brilliant idea if it can be done in an educational way that’s legal. And so, imagine no free Robux, no free prizes, just a game called the Dress to Impress Predictor, where it’s not like trying to get kids’ money or anything like that. I would be a big fan of it.
