The best part of @greenbeltfestival.bsky.social for me in recent years is when the daughter finds awesome new music for me to enjoy. Last year it was all about the riot girl vibe; this year we are going fully funkalicious open.spotify.com/artist/5dri3...

Brilliant thread showing clearly where we are right now and what any sensible parliament would be doing about it (TL:DR pandering to fascist thuggery never ends well for anyone, least of all the sitting govt)

After another shower of cowards tried to campaign on Facebook for people to stop donating to the RNLI when they discovered that they don't ask to see your passport when rescuing you if you're drowning in the sea, I started a monthly donation. You might want to do the same. Or just a one off.

The good news here is that it literally takes you, half a dozen of your friends, and your kids to save the progressive church down the street that has 28 Boomers on a Sunday and hosts AA and the trans teen group and the immigrants rights trainings. You want community? Build community.

“Breaking free from the culture of power, and tearing down the walls that separate human beings from one another, is never a betrayal of our families, towns or traditions. Instead, it means freeing them from their ghosts, from enemies invented out of fear or ignorance” Pope Leo!!
We may not be understood, even by those closest to us, as happened to Saint Francis.
Yet, breaking free from the culture of power, and tearing down the walls that separate human beings from one another, is never a betrayal of our families, towns or traditions.
Instead, it means freeing them from their ghosts, from enemies invented out of fear or ignorance and from the violence with which people seek to impose their own limited order on a reality that surpasses us on every side.
To trust in God is to rediscover, like Francis and Clare, a world of brothers and sisters to cherish and serve, not to exploit and dominate. Not a world to defend, but to embrace.

Ok hate me if you must but i’m solar powered and I bloody love this blazing sun. Coming back from greece to this and being able to carry on sitting out reading a book and feeling no pressure to get eveything unpacked and sorted because it’s too hot to care is amazing.

#MorningPrayer You call us, Lord Jesus, as your community of disciples, to bear fruit for your kingdom; the fruit of love, of hope, of justice, of peace. Ignite our passions for the things of your kingdom, and inspire us to share them with all around us, living your gospel today.

Here you are. Those of you who know the inner workings of the church more intimately than the average parishioner will notice the nuance I glossed over!
Last Sunday, our parish met together for its Annual Meeting—a great chance for everyone to see how our church had grown and developed over the year and what God might calling us to next! For those who weren't there, the financial report showed Parish Share cost our parish over £107,000.
A sizeable sum, and I know not all of us know exactly what it is and why we pay it. So I thought I would unpack it today. This is money that we send to the Diocese, the Church region led by the Bishop of Chester, covering roughly the old boundaries of Cheshire. The amount is based on the number of clergy we have and the financial makeup of the parish. Bowdon is a financially wealthy area so we pay more than, say, Partington does. That's part of its purpose - to fund the mission and ministry of the Church in parishes like Partington who otherwise couldn't afford their own vicar. So that no place goes without support just because they are economically deprived. These parishes are where roughly a third of our Share goes towards. But most of our Share comes right back to us. The stipends that pay our clergy, the housing they receive, their continued training and their pension is all paid out of just over half of our Parish Share. The remainder (~14%) is split between the national church (~2.5%, but abolished from this year) and the diocese, who spend it on training the next generation of vicars, on the safeguarding team that we all rely on to pick up the phone when we call, and the small team of staff who, for example, support me in my youth ministry when I need guidance. This isn't to say every penny is spent exactly how I would want, but that's why I ran for election to the Diocesan Board of Finance in
2024!Parish Share is one of the ways that we look beyond our parish boundaries, and give as God calls us to something bigger than ourselves. Thank you to each and every one of you who makes paying it possible, and let us pray for all the places and people it will support in this next year!

Can I just repeat that if you think the problems in this country can be solved by deporting immigrants or haranguing trans women you are a fucking idiot and should not be allowed to go to the shops unsupervised, never mind vote. Wealth inequality. It's always been wealth inequality.

Ironically the BBC stumbled on a really important story: Desperate asylum seekers being forced to turn to fraudulent fee-charging “advisors” to navigate a system that is intentionally impossibly baroque and from which all sources of free advice have been removed. But no: they chose Fake Gay Panic.

Today the Church of England remembers Theodore of Tarsus, second Archbishop of Canterbury, who had never set foot in these isles before being appointed, and who had to learn the local tongue on the journey here. There would be no British Christianity without immigrants.

While the mainstream discussions are depressingly about *how* best to remove and stop immigrants, it’s a revolutionary act nowadays to say that immigration is actually a positive thing and an essential component of a thriving country, so please join me in doing so!

The Church of England runs on the strength of its volunteers. Without local people giving up their holidays to work with the children of the parish, Youth Group Camp wouldn’t be possible. These are the people who give up their time every week to change people’s lives. @leeds.anglican.org

The first Beatitude is the doorway to the rest. We need a poverty of spirit - a yearning for trust and hope and courage to ask for help in order to be fully human. #TaizeNorth25

Poverty of spirit is a huge challenge for today’s world. We have lost our sense of mutual dependence and our need of others. Material poverty must be addressed but it must be addressed holistically and address the lack of hope. #TaizeNorth25

When the Beatitudes talk about “happy” and “blessed” the Greek from which it is translated is … difficult to translate in a multilingual space but is an encouragement to go forward in hope. It means an incomprehensible and deep happiness #TaizeNorth25.

So just to get this straight; a woman has a brief moment of weakness at work and the money markets go into meltdown, and yet it’s the woman who is the problem, not the twitchy snowflakes panicking about tears. Our world would be much better if we admit that money makes people irrational and dumb.
