Look it’s not that complicated, and the confusion comes from different cream types. Clotted is close to butter so it goes on first, then jam. But, if whipped double cream is used the jam knocks the air out, so in that situation you also need butter first, then jam then whipped cream.

Surely They/Them is right there - not in a collective dividing the trinity sense but in a none gendered but still personal sense. The trouble with ‘It’ is God is definitely not a thing.

You missed what is always the operative word in that sentence; OUR women and girls. Nothing to do with protection, it’s all about possession. They think they own us and that is what is truly terrifying when I think about what’s coming.

What? The Creator of reality doesn’t deal in simplistic binaries and concepts of “normality”. Colour me amazed* *Not at all amazed.

Speaking as someone who is on day eleventy billion and attempt … ??? of explaining to my laptop and printer that i do not want the default setting to be booklet (and yes I know enough to know how to reset the default) … “supposed to” is doing a laughable amount of heavy lifting there

Genuinely think the tiffany aching series is one of the best things ever written about vocation (not an original thought it was @robbsutherland.bsky.social who suggested them to me)

To be fair with this one they probably had no idea this was coming. I’m not a fan so don’t really know them - but it seems a weird direction to take

Interesting this is ‘after’ headlining @greenbeltfestival.bsky.social I didn’t see the set but doubt very much they were terribly forthcoming with these views in that gloriously queer space.

The best part of @greenbeltfestival.bsky.social for me in recent years is when the daughter finds awesome new music for me to enjoy. Last year it was all about the riot girl vibe; this year we are going fully funkalicious open.spotify.com/artist/5dri3...

Dock pudding is essentially an excuse to eat all the bacon fat and call it a vegetable side. Had the pleasure of attending the championships. It would defo work as a spinach substitute but note it’s sweet dock which is a different variety - would not recommend using regular dock leaves.

Brilliant thread showing clearly where we are right now and what any sensible parliament would be doing about it (TL:DR pandering to fascist thuggery never ends well for anyone, least of all the sitting govt)

After another shower of cowards tried to campaign on Facebook for people to stop donating to the RNLI when they discovered that they don't ask to see your passport when rescuing you if you're drowning in the sea, I started a monthly donation. You might want to do the same. Or just a one off.

Reminds me of the bins in Whitby that say “thank you for using me” when you shove rubbish in their ‘throat’. When the bots rise up (and they will) those guys are going to be on the frontline and i would not want to be there when they start eating the tourists while screaming the same words.

To be fair i grew up about half a mile from Menwith hill. And my parents pub had a DoD radio set in the office that was supposed to be monitored and act as the 4 minute warning for the village so i have a very specific experience of growing up in the cold war. It went off once by accident.

What needs to happen is that ‘big brewery’ shouldn’t be allowed to hold massive property portfolios and let them rot with “manager wanted” signs while they use the value to offset their losses - if it’s not viable they have to sell in reasonable time (*cough* Sam Smiths *cough*)

The good news here is that it literally takes you, half a dozen of your friends, and your kids to save the progressive church down the street that has 28 Boomers on a Sunday and hosts AA and the trans teen group and the immigrants rights trainings. You want community? Build community.

“Breaking free from the culture of power, and tearing down the walls that separate human beings from one another, is never a betrayal of our families, towns or traditions. Instead, it means freeing them from their ghosts, from enemies invented out of fear or ignorance” Pope Leo!!
We may not be understood, even by those closest to us, as happened to Saint Francis.
Yet, breaking free from the culture of power, and tearing down the walls that separate human beings from one another, is never a betrayal of our families, towns or traditions.
Instead, it means freeing them from their ghosts, from enemies invented out of fear or ignorance and from the violence with which people seek to impose their own limited order on a reality that surpasses us on every side.
To trust in God is to rediscover, like Francis and Clare, a world of brothers and sisters to cherish and serve, not to exploit and dominate. Not a world to defend, but to embrace.

Uni doesn’t have to be higher status than eg a plumber or an artisan who can rebuild a dry stone wall by eye - we choose to view it that way. It shouldn’t be about cost or class it should be about the brain of the person and what fulfils them and gives them meaning and access to satisfying work.

That’s the fundamental problem - university education and other skills/vocations should be equally valued and funded options. Work fulfilment should be more important than financial/social value - i had a great conversation with my hairdresser about how it’s a creative outlet that fits her skills.

The thing i don’t get based on current experience of menopause is;I know and am settled in my identity and yet somehow (because of MP) my body is now weirdly disconnected from who I am/perceive myself to be. On that basis I don’t get why women my age don’t identify *more* with trans experience.

RTD said it in tip toe - the minority does what the oppressor says they want and then the oppressor responds with “not like that”. because it was never about how the minorty behaves or presents it was always about irrational hate and fear driven by a closed world view which can’t be appeased.

I think it’s Gloucester. This is a hobby horse i’ve been flogging for years but in terms of funding it, admin is so not missionally sexy - even though relieving the management burden would release so much time for mission, it’s a very hard sell to a funding system focused on bums on seats.

Here you are. Those of you who know the inner workings of the church more intimately than the average parishioner will notice the nuance I glossed over!
Last Sunday, our parish met together for its Annual Meeting—a great chance for everyone to see how our church had grown and developed over the year and what God might calling us to next! For those who weren't there, the financial report showed Parish Share cost our parish over £107,000.
A sizeable sum, and I know not all of us know exactly what it is and why we pay it. So I thought I would unpack it today. This is money that we send to the Diocese, the Church region led by the Bishop of Chester, covering roughly the old boundaries of Cheshire. The amount is based on the number of clergy we have and the financial makeup of the parish. Bowdon is a financially wealthy area so we pay more than, say, Partington does. That's part of its purpose - to fund the mission and ministry of the Church in parishes like Partington who otherwise couldn't afford their own vicar. So that no place goes without support just because they are economically deprived. These parishes are where roughly a third of our Share goes towards. But most of our Share comes right back to us. The stipends that pay our clergy, the housing they receive, their continued training and their pension is all paid out of just over half of our Parish Share. The remainder (~14%) is split between the national church (~2.5%, but abolished from this year) and the diocese, who spend it on training the next generation of vicars, on the safeguarding team that we all rely on to pick up the phone when we call, and the small team of staff who, for example, support me in my youth ministry when I need guidance. This isn't to say every penny is spent exactly how I would want, but that's why I ran for election to the Diocesan Board of Finance in
2024!Parish Share is one of the ways that we look beyond our parish boundaries, and give as God calls us to something bigger than ourselves. Thank you to each and every one of you who makes paying it possible, and let us pray for all the places and people it will support in this next year!
