Massive welfare cuts and scrapping the pension triple-lock? Sure, no mandate for it but whatever, it's vibes. Electoral reform, opposing the far-right, nationalising failing public utilities? Nah fam it's not in the 2026 manifesto, I don't know her.

The "Zionism is racism" motion, to be debated at the Green Party conference tomorrow, will not advance the Palestinian cause one inch. But, if adopted, it would marginalise and discredit the party. There are powerful ways to confront the genocide. Toxic gesture politics isn't one of them.

Everyone is equally valid. EVERYONE deserves to be safe. To deny one demographic shows you could deny ANY demographic as soon as it becomes expedient. So, @mothinali.bsky.social, you need to learn to add "gender identity" to your "belonging" list - and mean it - or resign. #TransRightsAreHumanRights
From today's issue of The Guardian, a post detailing Mothin Ali's speech to the Green Conference.

Mothin Ali then goes on to say the Greens could become the “most inclusive poltiical movement in modern Britain”, saying the party wants to be the place for people to feel like they belong and are empowered.

He’s gearing up to announcing the party’s economic policy plank of promising jobs for young people – giving them financial security.

“Whether you’re a black boy sitting in a park, or whether you’re a Jewish family towards a synagogue, or whether you’re a Muslim in a mosque.

Or someone seeking safety after fleeing from war and persecution.

There should be no street, no neighbourhood, and no place in this country where you can’t live your life in peace.

Belonging should never be a condition on race, religion, accent, or background.

So what do we do? When people feel powerless, give them meaningful power. When they feel unheard, create places where they genuinely have a voice.

My love poem to my house. #NationalPoetryDay
Rivelin

Should my house crumble
roof cave in
still I will shelter like a bird
though roots push through the tiled floor
though honeysuckle tumble
through shattered panes
I will nest
in fissured walls
furred with moss and meadowsweet
only to hear the river rapids
roaring below
only to breathe the jasmine
clinging, delicate and feral,
to the cliffs of my home.

The fact that the entire funding pot for the SFI was allocated within mere hours of applications opening demonstrates the huge ambition of our farmers to invest in sustainable practices - but without proper support from the govt to do so, countless farmers will be left unable to take on this work.
I am writing about the closure of Window 2 of the Sustainable Farming Incentive 2026 (SFI26)
and the farmers who have been left without an agreement - despite making genuine efforts to
apply. The window opened yesterday morning, 22nd September, and closed at 15:48, after the
£233 million budget had been committed. The fact that the entire fund was allocated within hours
is striking evidence of the level of demand from farmers for support to adopt and maintain
sustainable, nature- and river-friendly farming practices.
Farmers have contacted me directly. One told me they pressed the application button at around
16:00, only to find the budget had already been exhausted. Another, whose SFI23 agreement
expires in November, encountered a Rural Payments Agency (RPA) functionality problem,
followed RPA advice to re-apply, and ultimately found SFI26 closed before they could secure the
support they had been trying to obtain. A further farmer described confusion over the status of
their different applications within the RPA system. These cases raise immediate questions about
how farmers who made every reasonable effort to apply will be treated. But they also point to a
wider issue - the speed at which the funding was taken up suggests that the problem is not a lack
of willingness among farmers to deliver environmental outcomes, but a lack of sufficient, reliable
public investment to enable them to do so.
I therefore ask that your Department urgently:
1. Provides a remedy for farmers who made genuine and timely attempts to apply but were
unable to secure an agreement - particularly those whose existing environmental
agreements are expiring before the next SFI opportunity.
2. Reviews cases involving technical or administrative problems, including farmers who
followed RPA advice to withdraw, reject, or reapply - and ensure that farmers who lost
access to funding because of such problems have a route to redress.
3. Publishes a clear account of Window 2,…4. Sets out what support is available to farmers with expiring agreements who have been left
without a new agreement - rather than simply asking them to wait for SFI27. Your
Department specifically created an early application mechanism for farmers with eligible
agreements, so I hope you will agree that continuity for these farmers needs to be
addressed quickly.
5. Uses the evidence from SFI26 to set a significantly more ambitious level of funding for
future environmental farming support. The fact that £233 million was committed in less
than six hours should be treated as evidence of substantial unmet demand. I would be
grateful if you could set out how the Government will ensure that farmers who want to
improve soil, protect nature and rivers, build resilience and produce food sustainably have
the resources to do so.
In July, you said that you remain committed to bringing greater stability and predictability to the
SFI, and that your Department will keep the core offer largely stable for the remainder of this
Parliament to help farmers plan ahead - but that stability will only be meaningful if farmers can
also have confidence that sufficient funding will be available to participate.
In North Herefordshire and across the nation, farmers are stepping up to deliver environmental
outcomes for the public, and the response to yesterday’s window shows clearly that many are
willing to do so. As Government policy should meet that ambition, rather than creating a system in
which the available support disappears within hours, I would be grateful for a response on (1)
what urgent action you will take for those affected by Window 2, and (2) what assessment your
Department has made of the level of investment required to meet the evident demand for
sustainable, nature- and river-friendly farming.

Healthcare should be there when you need it. No exceptions. Trans people deserve the same dignity, respect and access to care as everyone else.
Quote graphic. Headline reads: “When trust in healthcare is broken.”

Quote from Anthony Slaughter, Leader of the Wales Green Party:

“People had surgeries cancelled at the 11th hour, with no explanation or option to reschedule. These are people who had spent years preparing, both physically and mentally, for this life-affirming surgery.

In my own way, I was able to relate to that agonising wait. In the days leading up to planned surgery over recess, I underwent scheduled and serious surgery. You trust the system around you. For some, that trust has been broken.

What is important is that the voices and experiences of the trans community are amplified and understood. Gender-affirming healthcare saves lives. What this community needs now more than ever is decisive action, proof that their government will stand up for them and take the lead.”

Since becoming leader of the Green Party in 2025, Zack Polanski has made the links between climate change, inequality and the cost of living central to his politics, arguing that environmental action must also make people’s lives better.

This summer, as the UK faced its hottest summer ever and wildfires swept across the UK and the rest of the globe, he called for oil and gas companies to pay higher taxes to fund climate adaptation. That is alongside investment in cooling homes and public spaces and bringing water companies into public ownership.
